German soccer becomes one of the most popular sports in Germany. From the 1950 to 1990, during World War II, the team was informally called West Germany.

In 1934, Germany tried to get together to build a team for 1934 World Cup and German soccer clubs even though the poor economic conditions during WWI Germany. And even after the World War II was over, the soccer team had to suffer. Most players had to join the armed forces in 1939 and 1942.

After World War II, they managed to form a team again for 1966's World Cup. And it was a
memorable match between England versus Germany called by German press and populary known as "Wembley Goal".

By the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, the so called "The game of the Century". The match against Italy with the score of 3-4, it became greatest moments because of its most talk about game of the century.

But of course, sometimes their game plan was still lacking coordination and professionalism. In 1909, the game called as a disaster in the history of soccer in Germany with the score of 9-0 victory of the English side.

And today, Germany is one of the most successful nations at soccer history. Germany made three winnings out of 7 World Cup finals.

In 2006 World Cup was hosted by Germany. The tournament was considered a great success for Germany although Germany failed to win the Cup. Whenever the German team played they gave the honor by waving their flag by German society since World War II.

Football-Related Boyfriend Gifts

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Football-oriented boyfriend gifts are the perfect choice year-round. Unfortunately, that choice is never a simple one. There is just so much to choose from, and many of us can barely keep the team names straight. Where is a woman to start? Try this list of football gift ideas.

Glassware, Mugs, & Bowls

Start him off with a pair of coffee mugs, one for home, and one for work, emblazoned the logo of his favourite squad. Then, consider a cereal bowl or two, and eggcups make great decorations for shelves and desks. Perhaps the boyfriend gifts that will go over best will be the football-themed pint glass with matching bottle opener and coasters.

Car Accessories

What does your boyfriend love almost as much as you and football? That's right, his car. So what could be better boyfriend gift than ones that allow him to show off team pride while decorating his ride? Officially licensed pennants and football-style boxing gloves look great hung from the rear-view mirror. There are also air fresheners, rear-window stickers, and kits that include front and rear floor mats and a whole lot more.

Computer Accessories

Does your boyfriend use the computer much? Buy him a matching mouse and mouse pad set flavoured with his favourite team. Does he carry that laptop to and from work? Replace that boring laptop bag with a stylish Manchester United laptop bag. Does he collect CDs or DVDs? Then, try a Liverpool CD/DVD wallet. Other items come styled in an Arsenal or England F.C. theme.

Clothing

This time, buy him something that he'll actually wear. Slippers are a fine choice as a small gift, and they are available in a wide array of styles and sizes in addition to team motifs. Alternatively, buy a scarf, a knitted hat, and a matching pair of gloves for those frigid months. If you need something for the warmer periods, caps are always a fantastic choice, and offered in a wide selection.

Other football gifts for boyfriends

Here are some ideas that don't fit neatly into any one category when discussing boyfriend gifts. Does your boyfriend have a man cave? Decorate it with a wall clock or an inflatable chair with drink holders. Does he have trouble waking in the morning? Perhaps an old-fashioned alarm clock is the perfect choice. Other gift ideas include dog collars, balls, tees, and towels for golf, as well as Zippo lighters, cufflinks, and even key rings.

Once you have exhausted this list of football oriented boyfriend gifts there will be more released as these are being created almost on a daily basis.

GOM Blocking Scheme For Youth Football

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I begin by detailing one of the more talked about blocking assignments some coaches are using in youth football. Each play you plan to use can only have success if the blocking schemes are solid and executed correctly. As a coach it is your job to make sure all of your linemen understand which defender they are required to block on each and every play.

The rules change depending on the situations, of which a few are explained below:

The Specific Offensive formation we are using The individual Offense scheme we are using If this is a run or pass play How the Defensive team is aligned Scouting report What kind of ability does our team have this year How much talent our opponents have Listed above are just a few of the major factors you must take into account when deciding the suitable blocking assignments to teach your youth football team. Another important area of consideration is how easy the scheme will be to teach your players. Take special care in making the assignments easy for your young kids.

The Gap On Man blocking scheme seeks to give a solid set of rules each offensive lineman should follow on each play. In the real world this is impossible, but many coaches will use GOM (Gap on man abbreviated) for a generic run-blocking strategy.

The GOM base rules explain that each offensive lineman will make his determination on who to block based on the set of the rules. All decisions every player makes start on where the center is lined up, on his right or left. GOM base rules instruct each lineman to block the first defender that fits a rule in order.

Beneath is the exact rules, in order, that each lineman will base his decision on. These descriptions are if you are playing a guard:

GAP - if there is an opposing player set up in the GAP (the gap is the region between the center and the guard), this is the primary rule and the player you should block ON - if there is no opposing player in the GAP, but a player is lined up straight across from you, this is your primary block.

MAN - if there is neither an opposing player on defense in the GAP or set up straight across from you, or ON, your rule is to block the first MAN (player) in front of you. This can be a linebacker, defensive end or safety. Gap On Man may appear to be the answer to your prays since it seems to be easy to teach and appears to have a simple answer on who to block no matter how the defense lines up. Your line will have to work as a group and have faith their fellow linemen, trusting they will be blocking the correct players on defense.

Football Injuries

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Injuries on the playing field are common. But for those like Bennie Joppru, who has not played a game in three seasons due to an injury, this season may be his last. When a player is considered 'injury prone', they run the risk of being cut from the team. Injuries will happen, but players are expected to make a full recovery and quickly. Many in the NFL wonder if this is fair. Bodies heal from different injuries at different rates. Depending on the players age, past injuries, and current injury, they could be out of the game for a season or more.

Donovan McNabb has been out of the game since last season because of an injury. Other players such as Domanick Davis and Mewelde Moore are other players who will need to make a comeback this season. When a player is injured and back on the field, other players may have to compensate by catching more balls and running more yards because of injured teammates. If an injury is big enough, a player could end up without a job.

Injuries should be attended to immediately. Players do need to rest until they are ready to play again. But in an industry that is youth driven and money hungry, injured players are not considered an asset. Even though many teams will give their players a chance to prove themselves, the amount of pressure to perform can be too much to handle. Many players need to plan for a future without the NFL after they are injured and cannot play for an extended period of time.

Wannabe Sports Medicine Physicians - How To Become One

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Who is a sports medicine physician? What does he or she do exactly? These are questions which are on the minds of many people who have recently heard of the term sports medicine physician. To become a sports medicine doctor one has to first be a physician and then undergo special training in sports medicine. Here the doctor concentrates on the long term health and fitness of his patients by helping them to overcome illness and injuries.

The main job of a sports physician is to help his patients to function at their peak level and prevent any untoward setbacks in their physical health which can affect their sports, school and working life.

These specialized doctors do not concentrate only on sportspeople and athletes but also people who take up training programs just to keep fit. What exactly does a sports medicine physician play in a person?s life? What qualifications are necessary for someone to become one?

A sports medicine physician doubles up not only as a general physician but also incorporates sports medicine into his treatment procedures so as to help prevent illness and help maintain perfect health of his clients.

Normally in any sports there is a team of doctors catering to the needs of the players and it is the sports medicine physician who normally heads the team of doctors. This team can be made of specialists in surgical procedures, sports trainers, therapists, coaches and others. All of them are experienced professionals who could have specialized in any one of the following fields like family practice, Emergency medicine, Pediatrics, internal medicine, rehabilitation and Physical medicine.

You will find that all sports medicine physicians would have completed an additional 1-2 years training in specialized subjects in sports medicine through fellowship programs which are accredited. After having completed their certificate in areas like Internal medicine, Family Practice, pediatrics or Emergency medicine, these professionals then become eligible to take up another special examination to qualify in the field of sports medicine.
These sports physicians then work to obtain more training in non-musculoskeletal areas like head injuries and their treatments, treating athletes with chronic illness like asthma and diabetes, in aspects of supplements, nutrition and performance based issues, and prevention of injuries.

Now having learnt what exactly a sports medicine physician does when it comes to treating in sports medicine the next step is to search for a qualified person in the field of sports medicine.

The best way to find a capable and qualified person in this field is through referrals. Seek the help of your family doctor, friends and those working along with you as they would provide the best advice. You can also take the help from athletes when searching for a good sports medicine physician.

You can also search in online listings or at the American orthopedic Society, American Medical Association and the Physician and Sports Medicine Association.

Magic Mouthwash - Is it For Me?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There is a new tool in the arsenal of dentists and oral surgeons to fight chronic oral mucositis associated with advanced chemotherapy treatment and many other mouth conditions. Magic Mouthwash is a term used for mouthwash that contains extra antibiotic ingredients and is often prescribed by a doctor to treat a whole host of serious mouth and throat conditions. While there are many different brands of magic mouthwash available, it is usually only available with a doctor's prescription.

Magic Mouthwash contains many helpful ingredients that can ease the suffering of cancer patients who are suffering from oral mucositis to the point where they aren't able to eat solid food. In most cases, magic mouthwash contains diphenhydramine, a common antihistamine that is found in many popular products such as Benedryl. Many Magic Mouthwash products also contain glucocorticoids to lower the amount of inflammation and swelling that is often accompanied with oral mucostis. There are painkillers in most Magic products, as well, including Lidocaine and even an antacid such as Maalox. Many top Magic products also include Nystatin, a popular antifungal that is used to prevent outbreaks of thrush.

The Magic Mouthwash formula has been refined and perfected over time and is fairly similar among the different brands. While it is prescribed most often for cancer patients, it is also used by other people who have chronic canker sores that are not related to chemotherapy. If you feel that you may benefit from using this mouthwash, speak to your doctor or to your dentist to see if they can help you. Unlike regular mouthwash, this mouthwash is considered medicine and should only be used under a doctor's direct supervision. If you do not have a prescription for a Magic mouth wash product, do not use someone else's unless you have your own prescription.

Different Positions in Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The positions of players in football depend on whether a team is defense or offense.

Following are the offensive positions in football.

• Center: The player in center position has the function of normal blocking.

• Offensive guard: This position has two players and their primary task is to top both passing and running plays.

• Offensive tackle: Players in this position also block the passing and running plays.

• Tight end: Players in this position act either as a pass receiver or as blocker according to the game requirements.

• Wide receiver: Players in this position are speedy pass-catching experts and their primary task is to take a pass given by their team member.

• Full Back: The players here are positioned behind the middle line.

Following are the defensive football positions.

• Defensive end: Two players are placed in position and their primary task is to attack the passers and stop the offensive runs. They are placed on opposite edges of defensive line.

• Defensive tackle: Players in the defensive tackle position are placed in between defensive ends. Their main function is to stop running plays by rushing through the passers.

• Line backers: The line backers in football game have their position behind defensive line and they perform different types of tasks depending on situations. Some tasks include rushing through passers, covering receivers and defending them. Normally two to three players are placed in this position. Linebackers are divided in three categories such as weak side, middle side and strong side.

• Cornerback: Main task of players here is to prevent successful passes. They accomplish this task by throwing the ball away from receivers or else by catching ball by themselves.

• Safety: Players in this position are placed at the last. They mainly assist corners with large pass coverage. Normally the safeties are considered as hard hitters.

Could This Diet Pill Really Be the Secret Weapon in Your Weight Loss Arsenal?

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I've tried several diet pill in the last few years, I think I finally found a winner. It's one of the most popular diet pills on the market, it helps you lose weight by increasing your metabolic rate, promotes the burning of body fat (thermogenesis) and helps control weight management, food cravings and suppresses the appetite by slowing the absorption of serotonin. The formula also includes the components of Hoodia that made that such a great weight loss product. In case you are not familiar with it, Hoodia is a cactus like plant indigenous to the Kalahari desert in Africa. The local tribesmen have used it for years before going on hunts to eliminate their hunger.

After trial and error, I found the best way to select an effective diet pill, is to find one that helps you weight on three fronts;

Increases the metabolic rate, promoting thermogenesis (the burning of stored body fat).

Slows the absorption of serotonin, which helps in weight management by controlling food cravings and suppressing the appetite.

Inhibits the absorption of dietary fats by acting as a lipase inhibitor.

This diet pill, has consistently yielded me great results. There is no set or guaranteed amount of weight loss, however, my experience is that you should begin to see results within the first week You'll also feel the energizing effects in approximately 30 minutes which may last up to six hours.

Of course any diet pill works best in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise program. It's is very effective, but long term weight loss is more about changing bad eating and lifestyle habits. I use effective weight loss supplements like this one to kickstart my weight loss program when I find myself packing on some extra pounds, and after about a month begin relying on exercise and diet to maintain my desired weight.

Cesc Fabregas Missing From Arsenal Champions League Encounter

Friday, November 19, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Cesc Fabregas will not appear in Wednesday's Champions League tie versus Shakhtar Donetsk.

Arsene Wenger recently reassured fans that the injury wasn't too serious and hopes Fabregas will face Newcastle on Sunday.

Wenger stated: "There's no real strain, it's just a little bit of pain, but we can't take a gamble because he's had injuries before in his hamstring."

Midfielders Alex Song, Andrei Arshavin and Denilson are doubtful for the European tie.

Fabregas picked up his unfortunate hamstring whilst appearing against Sunderland in the Premier League on the 18th September and didn't return until the Gunners' 5-1 victory over Shakhtar at the Emirates on 19 October.

Wenger did not reveal when Fabregas picked up the new problem but the midfielder will not be making an appearance in the squad that travels to Ukraine.

"He has a good chance to play on Sunday but tomorrow night is too risky," the Frenchman said.

"There's still a bit of reluctance to push it 100%."

Song has picked up a calf problem, Denilson has a groin injury and Arshavin has an unspecified injury.

All three of the Arsenal stars will be assessed later on Tuesday.

Arsenal make the trip east in a favourable position in Group H after scoring a huge 14 goals in winning their first three games.

However, the Gunners have yet to win in Ukraine, losing three and drawing one of their previous four matches there.

Shakhtar are currently top of the Ukrainian league, five points clear of rivals Dynamo Kiev.

Youth Football - The Defensive Contain Responsibility

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the most difficult assignments in football is to contain the offense. That is, prevent the offense from getting outside to the side line, gaining the corner, and sprinting down the side-line. For the most part, a good athletic running back that gains the side-line will probably score the majority of the time as once they are in the open field will use their speed and athleticism to do damage.

The contain responsibility would be the assignment of either the outside linebacker or defensive end depending on your philosophy. My experience at the youth football level is that you will be more successful assigning an outside linebacker with the contain responsibility as opposed to the defensive end. A true defensive end would read the play and have both an inside and outside run responsibility, be able to scrape off his block and contain the outside run. However, these type of players are hard to find at the youth level and once double teamed are ineffective and give up the corner on the outside run play.

I have had more success by using a outside linebacker with primary contain responsibility and set up the defense so that the defensive ends work in tandem with the outside linebacker to maintain contain. Basically the outside linebacker would align on the line of scrimmage about two yards outside of the offensive tackle and on the snap of the ball would get up field to at least ball depth and turn in any outside runs or roll-outs, once they are disciplined on getting up field the next step would get them to collapse the pocket at ball depth and force the ball carrier to the inside.
I like to align the defensive ends on the outside shoulder of the Offensive tackles and on the snap of the ball they would engage the tackle and control the C gaps while at the same time reading the play in case of an inside run. The outside shoulder alignment gives them the edge on the outside run and by engaging the offensive tackle they can help with the inside run as well.

The offense now has to choose who to double team either the outside linebacker or the defensive end and with the end and outside linebacker working in tandem you should still have solid defense versus the outside run.

Cheers

Sports Management Not For The Faint Hearted

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are 2 types of sports clubs; those that offer multiple disciplines in sport and those that only offer one. The more disciplines a club offers and the bigger its membership base, the more powerful it becomes. Single discipline clubs tend to be smaller than multi-discipline clubs, but in certain cases they too can rise to great power. Clubs can offer these disciplines at an amateur or professional level, or both. Clubs also offer a range of programmes including competitive, recreational and instructional programmes.

The competitive programmes are usually held in different leagues to ensure that players of all levels get a chance to compete. There are also a variety of championships and tournaments that individuals are entitled to enter under the club name. If a club is lucky and has sponsorships or enough members to bolster its coffers, it may have enough money to subsidise tracksuits or t-shirts for its members so that when they do compete in tournaments they are able to wear club colours. It is often the smaller recreational clubs who don't have identifying club colours, but they usually make up for it with club spirit. Bigger, more professional clubs may have club tracksuits, t-shirts and badges to identify themselves. They may have an established fan base and will probably have modern training facilities.

All clubs require their members to pay membership fees. That is part of how they make their money. Most businesses are happy enough to sponsor prizes for once off occasions like a championship finals day or a tournament but are very reluctant to provide long-term sponsorship, unless the club is big and well known and popular within the community. Being on a winning streak also helps. Then they are only too happy to be associated with the club on a long-term basis, which is handy for buying all the modern training equipment. If the team is really big and successful they could have TV rights, there could be transfer fees from players and in some cases there is merchandising. If you earn an income from merchandising then you know that you have hit the big time.

Wikipedia says that sports management is "a field of education and vocation concerning the business aspect of sport. Some examples of sport managers include the front office system in professional sports, college sports managers, recreational sport managers, sports marketing, event management, facility management, and sports information."

I think that means that sports management takes care of all the admin in sport as well as all of the organising and arranging. It probably includes a lot of the functions of a committee i.e. the secretary for notes and paperwork, the treasurer for money, the chairperson for general management purposes. Without a structure in place to take care of these tasks there would be chaos and nothing would ever get done. No events would be organised, no training would take place, there would never be any money or if there was, no one would know where it was or how to get hold of it or what to spend it on (other than themselves). Worst of all there would be no one to complain to because with no one in charge who is there to blame?

The bigger the club the more complicated sports management becomes, presumably. If the club is a multi-disciplined club then there may be many subcommittees for each of the disciplines. They would all have a representative on the large overriding committee to report on activities and functioning. The overriding committee would have to keep on top of all the subcommittees and know what is going on in all of them and help them sort out their problems as they arise or delegate tasks for each sub-clubs that would help with the overall running of the club. It would be quite a monumental undertaking and would require great organisational skills.

In cases like this it may help to have an online sports management system, which simplifies a lot of admin tasks and makes the information easily accessible and easily understandable once you have accessed it. An online management system will also allow the club to store all kinds of valuable data such as information on opposition players, opposition weaknesses as well as own team weaknesses, opposition strengths and own team strengths. You can store information on each game and statistics related to the game in general. The more information that you gain and store the more your teams benefit.

Online sports management systems allow you to be organised and efficient as well as keep up to date on all relevant information. All of this is to the benefit of the club and will help to make the club a winning club as well as a powerful one.

History of Football = Yale Football

Sunday, November 14, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The history of football and Yale football are more correlated than even the most devout football fans realize. Yale football has been around since the beginning of football and in many respects the Yale football program is responsible for the current game that is played on high school fields on Friday nights and in NFL stadiums on Sundays. While many people are aware that football is a modern adaptation of the game rugby (which is interestingly an adaptation of a similar game played by the ancient Greeks) few people realize how the European centric game of the nineteenth century commuted across the pond to eventually become what is by many measures the most popular sport in America.

In the mid-1800s rugby became a popular pastime on many of the New England area based college campuses that would later become known as members of the Ivy League (a distinction created only as recently as 1954). Chief amongst the rugby enthusiasts were students at Yale, Harvard, and Princeton whose taste for the game was a direct result of the English schooling many pupils had received before enrolling at these American institutions with strong ties to the United Kingdom.

The man widely credited with being the revolutionary of modern American football is Walter Camp, a Connecticut born Yale alum who by the age of only thirty-three had already acquired the title of the "Father of American Football." Camp was an 1880 graduate of Yale University and would go on to serve as the head coach at Yale from 1888-1891 before moving to the west coast to serve as the first coach at Stanford University. Camp took over the head coaching position at Stanford in the school's second season after Stanford played their inaugural 1891 season without a head coach.

Without many of the rules that Walter Camp developed while at Yale the game of football would be unrecognizable. Among the many influential adjustments credited to Camp are innovations that include:

Having downs, i.e. 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down, and 4th down
Point system (six points for touchdowns, 3 points for field goals, etc.)
Snapping the football from the center to the quarterback
The current and often confusing rule requiring teams have seven men on the line of scrimmage (including receivers)
Inventing the safety and deciding to award it two points
By some accounts the invention of the forward pass (a debatable topic)

In addition to inventing the rules that would shape America's twenty-first century pastime Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut is the birth place of many of college football's most endearing traditions including the oldest rivalry (Harvard vs. Yale began in 1875 - Yale leads the series), the first live college mascot (the Yale bulldog known as Handsome Dan), and the first bowl stadium (the Yale Bowl) which served as the inspiration for subsequent bowls like the renowned Rose Bowl. The terms bowl game and Super Bowl both derive from the title Rose Bowl Stadium (home of the first post-season college football game) which as previously stated took its name and design from the Yale Bowl.

Perhaps most fascinating about the history of football as it relates to Yale football is that if you would have asked most Yale students in the early nineteenth century which event had more potential in terms of popularity between debate and football the overwhelming response received would have stated that debate was expected to be the more popular of the two contests. Long before there was ESPN debate contest results took front page headlines and warranted cheers from rowdy crowds as they sent their teams off to debate rival colleges. Furthering the argument that debate would outpace football in terms of popularity was the unavoidable fact that at the time football faced near extermination due to the rampant nature of serious injury.

We all know how the power struggle between debate matches and football games turned out and now as a result of reading this piece on the history of football as it relates to Yale football readers hopefully have a better understanding of how game that impacts so many lives (and advertising dollars on Super Bowl Sunday) came to be.

Shifting in Youth Football

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Rules on Shifting and Motion in Youth Football

Shifting and Using Motion in Youth Football:

Youth football coaches often have questions pertaining to the legalities of shifts or motion. While I'm not a huge believer in shifts for teams aged 9 and under, we have used motion with these groups all the way down to age 6. We have successfully used both shifts and motion from age 10 on up and with teams of 8-9s where at least half the kids have at least 1 year of tackle experience under their belts.. These tactics often put your team at a huge numbers advantage pre-snap.

Here are a few simple guidelines to remember:

You have to have a minimum of 7 players on the Line of Scrimmage. You can legally have all 10 on the line, but you have to have at least 7 on the line for the formation to be legal.

When shifting, all your players must come to a complete stop for at least one second before a player can go into motion.

Motion is legal as long as the player motioning is running parallel to or away from the line of scrimmage. No player is allowed to motion in a direction towards the line of scrimmage.

It is perfectly legal to shift more than one player as long as your team is not trying to "simulate the snap" to draw the other team off-sides. In other words as long as the shift movements are fluid and deliberate and are not designed to draw the defense off-sides, shifting is legal with multiple players. Again the shifting players must be set for a full second before they are allowed to shift or motion.

Once your player goes into motion you can legally snap the ball. Many youth football coaches mistakenly feel your motion player has to be in motion for one second prior to your team snapping the football. That is incorrect, as long as that motion player is motioning parallel to or away from the line of scrimmage, you can snap the ball at any time. Again, this player must be set for one second before he is allowed to go into motion.

In youth football motion and shifts can be important weapons in your offensive arsenal. However, don't put motion and shifts in until your base plays are perfected, don't try to run before your kids learn to walk or crawl so to speak.

If you feel your motion or shift is a bit out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to show it to the officials before the game to familiarize them with it. Many High School teams even have their motioning players take a slow deliberate drop step to insure that there is no obvious intent to "simulate the snap". I've seen that quite a bit from High Schools that run Jet type motion.

If you are going to shift and or motion, make sure it's fluid and make sure your players have landmarks and cadence landmarks. In other words make sure the motioning player has something he can look at to determine how deep and how far he is motioning. For his timing landmark, he needs to know at what exact point in the snap count cadence he is to start his motion on. If your cadence is "Shift-Down-Ready-Set-Go", your instruction to the motioning player might be; "Start your motion on the "S" of Set". This like anything else will require lots of reps and practice to make it work, but for most youth football teams, it is worth the effort.

Rising Stars - England Soccer Trial Standouts

The world's most talented young players converge in England each May at soccer tryouts for England's extremely competitive Premiership teams.

Challenging the world's finest players

soccer at the international level, particularly in England, is played and followed with ferocious intensity. The speed and agility seen in English games is legendary and proves challenging even for young prodigies, like 15-year-old Jordan Kotsopoulos. A provincial player from Ontario, Canada, Jordan is currently being considered for the Canadian National team.

"The pace and technical ability in England at the professional academy level is sharp and faster than North America," said Jordan in an interview after his successful Premiership audition. "I learned a lot and look forward to returning next year at 16 years old to sign and stay there."

Soccer academy serves as gateway for professional soccer

Jordan secured the professional soccer trials after impressing his teachers and trainers at the EduKick soccer boarding school in Bolton, England. He also impressed scouts from Bolton Wanderers FC, Blackburn Rovers FC and Preston North End, earning an invitation to return by both the Blackburn and Preston clubs.

Train-abroad programs, like the camps and schools offered through EduKick, develop players who can live up to the high expectations of Premiership soccer. Aoi Kushige, a 19-year-old female player from Japan, came to EduKick England's soccer academy to pursue her dream of playing professionally. Kushige's six months in England paid off, rewarding her with her first professional soccer contract with the Lady Rovers.

"I am from England and understand how difficult it is for young players to get with Premiership clubs," said Jon Morgan, EduKick Inc.'s general manager. "Aoi paid her dues by participating in a football development program with us. She did well and we are all very proud of her."

Strict standards for England's premiership

According to Joey Bilotta, VP of EduKick Inc., it takes more than soccer skills to get noticed by Premiership teams like the Blackburn Rovers or Bolton Wanderers.

"It's not enough to be very talented and have great potential," said Bilotta. "Young soccer players must also have the right attitude and character to even be considered for professional soccer tryouts with our affiliated teams in Europe."

While there are no guarantees, professional level training in England is a powerful catalyst for motivated, talented young players interested in Premiership careers.

How to score on the international pro soccer scene

When asked to give advice to other young players longing for professional soccer glory, Jordan Kotsopoulos said, "It doesn't matter how good you are. You can always be better, so keep on training."

Best Soccer Diets

Now that you know what you shouldn't eat, let's take a look at what you should. A healthy diet is a diet rich in the following ingredients:

o Vegetables, particularly green ones. Salad is excellent for you, as is broccoli; just remember to go easy on the dressing.

o Whole grains

o Lean meats, such as chicken, fish and low-fat steak

o Fresh fruits (try to avoid canned fruits and vegetables; the former are high in sugar and the latter high in sodium)

o Water. Even though iced tea is low in calories it is high in caffeine, something you should also try to avoid while you're in training. Drinking water regularly provides a second benefit as well; your body's levels of hydration are a critical factor in determining how well you perform on the field. Muscles which have been dehydrated, even slightly, are going to cramp faster and tire more easily than muscles whose cells have maintained their high water content.

A general rule in any form of athletics (but particularly one where you are going to be running around out-of-doors for any length of time) is that if you are thirsty you are too late. Your body is already dehydrated enough to begin to cause complications. Try to drink water consistently throughout the day, whether you are thirsty or not. Keep a sports bottle with you at all times; freezing the water inside the bottle overnight will help to keep it cold and refreshing, since you will have a constant supply of ice. Just be sure to drink a big glass of water when you first get up in the morning to help get you over that "hump" where the ice is just beginning to melt. (Freezing a bottle of water, then taking it out of the freezer about an hour before game time will help to ensure that you have a cold liquid available to you the entire time you are on the field).

Although it probably is not something you focus on with regularity, if you are unsure as to whether or not your body is properly hydrated take the time to examine your urine each time you go to the bathroom. Urine contains certain substances which serve to give it its traditional yellow hue; when these substances are undiluted the urine will appear to be darkly colored. The principle is that you want your body to be as hydrated as possible, thereby expelling excess fluids in greater amounts and strongly diluting other substances in your urine, giving your urine a clear color. Short story: if you go to the bathroom and your urine is yellow, you need to drink more water.

o Fortified cereals. Try to steer clear of those which are high in sugar (sorry, Lucky Charms still aren't on the list of approved food intake while you are attempting to get your body in shape); however, Raisin Bran, Total, Special K and other related cereals are extremely healthy, keeping your body stocked up on the nutrients it needs to survive.

o Milk and other dairy products

Carbohydrates. It is essential that you carefully monitor your daily intake of carbohydrates, however; although carbs are the part of your diet that provide your body with the all-important energy that you are going to need to keep up once you set foot on that field, if you do not use up the calories in your carbs they are going to settle in and become fat (you've no doubt heard people say that the spaghetti they ate went straight to their hips and dismissed it as foolishness; there actually is a ring of truth to this statement).

The Game Plan Part 3 (2007)

Thursday, November 4, 2010

The last game of the regular football season between the Boston Rebels and the New York Dukes ends in a touchdown by Rebels quarterback Joe Kingman after he runs it into the end zone, ignoring a throw from wide receiver Sanders. The next morning, Kingman gets a surprise when an eight year-old girl named Peyton Kelly shows up at his doorstep saying that she is his daughter and that her mother sent her here to meet him. Kingman's agent, Stella Peck thinks this will be bad for his image, and distracts him with the upcoming playoffs. At the opening of Kingman's restaurant, he leaves without Peyton, and the next morning is on cover of a tabloid in a magazine article. As a result, Peck decides Kingman needs a new fatherly image. While at a press conference, the reporters attempt to make Kingman look miserable, until Peyton starts speaking and says that he is new to this and is trying the best he can, and that she thinks he is the best father in the world. To pay her back for clearing his image at the press conference, Peyton has Kingman take her to a ballet academy run by Monique Vasquez. Vasquez has Kingman join their ballet performance to show him that ballet takes just as much athletic ability as football. Kingman and Peyton begin their relationship after Peyton calls his arrogant and selfish behavior to his attention. Kingman takes Peyton and her friends to the mall where he begins to get along with Vasquez.

Football Drills for Defense End

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Probably the most important job of a defensive end in football is to rush the quarterback. It's important that the defensive ends get good pressure on the quarterback. Otherwise the quarterback will have time to stand back behind his offensive line and complete passes to his receivers. Football drills for defense end help a player develop strength and explosiveness so he can get to the quarterback quickly. There are also many drills that help a defensive end develop moves to get to the quarterback.

Firing Off the Ball

If a defensive lineman doesn't fire off the ball at the snap, then he will have a hard time rushing the quarterback and disrupting a running play. So, football drills for defense end always have to include working on firing off the ball.

The drill is very easy. Since a defensive linemen needs to look in and watch for the ball to be snapped (for them to fire forward) during a game, that's what they do for this drill. The defensive linemen get into their three point stance and a coach simulates the snapping of the ball. When the coach snaps the ball, the defensive linemen fire forward.

Specific Moves

There are a few different moves that defensive linemen can use to try to beat an offensive lineman and get to the quarterback. For each move there is a drill that helps the defensive lineman perfect the move. Two of the better football drills teach the Swim Move and the Bull Rush.

The Swim Move

The Swim Move involves a defensive end making a swimming move with his arm in order to knock the offensive lineman's hands down. What an offensive lineman wants to do is get his hands on the defensive lineman to shield him away from the quarterback. So, by raising his arm up and knocking the offensive lineman's hands away (using a Swim Move), the defensive linemen can get to the quarterback.

The Bull Rush

The Bull Rush is a move that has the defensive end running directly into the offensive lineman and trying to knock him off balance and then out of the way.

A great drill to work on the Bull Rush requires 2 players, one to be the defensive end and the other to provide resistance. The defensive lineman should place his helmet and his hands into the back of the player providing resistance. At the whistle, the defensive lineman will begin pushing the other players while that player provides resistance. Then, when a signal is given, the player providing the resistance will try to sit down. The defensive lineman must hold-up the offensive lineman and continue to drive the o-linemen back. This forces the defensive end to use his hips and his upper-body strength.

The Benefits of Football Drills for Defense End

Football drills for defense end are great because they teach a defensive end how to play the position the right way. The drills teach a defensive end how to fire off the ball and the drills also teach the defensive end specific moves to beat the offensive lineman and get to the quarterback. Two of these drills teach the Swim Move and the Bull Rush.
