Various Costs of Football Equipment

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

It's important to get familiar on what football equipment to purchase and the costs involved in making those purchases. This post is intended for parents with children that play football, from Pop Warner, all the way up to high school.

I will discuss the four areas you should purchase. This includes helmets, shoulder pads, thigh pads, and shoes. There have been some technological advances within the last few years that

Youth Football Helmets can range in price from $50 - $120.

For safety concerns, a quality helmet cannot be stressed enough. Fitment is crucial to ensure safety. Concussions are always a possibility. Using the proper helmet that has been measured for the proper fitting for the specific player, it can reduce the impact involved when a hit or tackle occurs. Helmets should be taken cared for and maintained according to the manufacturer's instructions. To determine the size of helmet needed, players should measure the circumference of their head at about 1 inch above the eyebrows. Do not measure any higher or lower than 1 inch above the eyebrows.

To get the proper sizing when buying a football helmet, it is important to consider the helmet position while wearing it. Best fit should be that the front edge of the helmet opening should be approximately 1 inch above the eyebrows.

Shoulder Pads can range in price from $30 - $150.

Thigh Pads can range in price from $10 - $100.

Shoes/Cleats can range in price from $20 - $120.

You must buy additional items as well. One essential item to purchase is the mouthpiece. It will protect the players teeth from smashing together from those jarring hits that will occur.

There are many non-essential items that one may purchase. For example, football gloves are not essential, but they are nice to have. It provides the player with greater grip to hold onto the ball or to catch the ball. The gloves can range in price from $20 - $99. Are they effective? I believe that in competition, if it is a legal piece of football equipment, by all means, purchase it.

There are also lineman gloves that are used to prevent players damaging there hands by hitting the other player's face mask or helmet.

There are many other items to consider for purchase. Consider your budget while making these decisions carefully. I cannot stress enough the importance of safety. The helmet should be one of your first considerations for purchase.

Best Way to Get a Sports Sponsorship

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Sport sponsorships are becoming hugely popular as one of the best ways to create brand awareness, advertise one's services, as well as reaffirm the company's reputation as a responsible corporate citizen in the business world. There are many ways by which a sports person or sporting club, or sporting team can win sponsorship deals that only just help to promote their sport, nurture their talent but also, provide them with the necessary funds to purchase equipment etc.

Pro-Launch companies helps individuals pursue their dreams to make it big in the sport of their choice, while giving them the necessary infrastructure support to stay in the game, and garner recognition. Of course, a pro-launch company helps deserving sports people get financial funding to achieve their goals. Needless to say some sports can get sponsorship easily, while others require slightly more hard work. But with a good pro-launch agency taking care of your affairs, you can be assured that you will be able to focus on becoming a better player, and chase your dream in a much more planned and peaceful manner knowing your interests are well taken care of by the experts.

Companies such as Coca Cola, PepsiCo allocate sponsorship budgets each year as part of the yearly budgeting process and sports sponsorship companies can help you get a piece of that sponsorship pie easily, as they know the market and its nitty-gritty's.

Sport sponsors essentially require sports properties that can be valuable, effective, and make quantifiable contribution to their existing or planned advertising and marketing communication. However in order to achieve this objective, sponsors must be convinced that the sport or the sporting personality is a good fits with their brand's personality and prefer a uniqueness that is specific to their brand in order to prevent any consumer confusion.

Every sponsor, typically, wants media mileage and sporting events give them just this. With several exciting opportunities for unique advertising from newspapers to television to radios to apparel and other merchandise, sponsors totally explore these mediums to create brand awareness and breed familiarity for their customers. A great way to penetrate the market, sponsors believe sport sponsorship is ideal for many other things as well including networking, creating their own image as a responsible business house, and of course, sometimes just for non-profit reasons.

Some of the things you need to ensure before opting for a pro-launch company include that the company:

- Provides you a plan to stay funded and stay in the sport

- Ensures that you have a support team

- Offers you advice and guidance to improve and become a complete and attractive package

- Helps you gain an edge and uniqueness

- Can help you gain sponsorship in your chosen sport, whichever it may be from golf, tennis, motor cross, boxing, to surfing, snow boarding, skiing, tri-athletics, track and field, baseball, basketball and others.

Finally, a pro-launch company must help you become a better player and should be able to give you the singular opportunity to chase and achieve your dream by simply concentrating on winning!

This is a video of Emmanuel Adebayor's goals last season. He has been getting some (unfair) stick off fans this season and I just wanted to remind them how important he is to our club and the way we play. I would be sad to see this Adebayor sign for City, but last season's Adebayor was a disgrace.

Zone Blocking For Youth Football Teams

Thursday, September 23, 2010

There are many differences between youth football players and College, Pro and High School players. To say the difference is night and day would not do justice to how different they are. It would be like the differences in the beauty of Miss America and the 1,000 pound bearded lady at the State Fair.

College, Pro and even High School players practice 6 days a week and play their games on a 7th day. Most of these guys practice 20-30 hours each week, youth football teams practice from 4-8 hours every week. Pro, College and High School players have played the game for 7-25 years, they have the basics down, they know the game. Youth football players have 1-2 years of experience and many youth teams are made up of a majority of kids that have never played before. Most youth football players don't know the difference between a 3 technique and a footstool. Pro, College and High School kids are 16-35 years old, they can move faster, control their bodies better and retain and process much more information than youth football players. Pro, College and High School teams cut weak players, they are the best of the best. The pros and college teams cut kids every day that were the best players in their respective youth and High School teams. Even the High Schools cut weaker players, they also send weaker kids to JV or Reserve teams.

Pro, College and even some High School players are being taught by coaches that coach for a living. Most devote 50-70 hour weeks to learning their craft and most have 10-15 years of experience playing the game. This compares to the amount of experience and time a youth coach can spend on developing himself as a coach, which for most doesn't even allow for the time to go to a single weekend coaches clinic or the purchase of a single Coaching Book or DVD. The difference in the levels of coaching expertise is just huge, yet a youth coach with no experience with complex zone blocking is going to teach it to others?

In a nutshell Pro, College and even most High School teams are made up of great players athletically compared to the typical youth football player that will never play High School football let alone even sniff at College or Pro Football. Youth teams are made up of a very limited amount of players, you cant send the kids down to JV, Reserve or Frosh teams, and you can't cut them. In fact you are going to play them, some probably will even start on your offensive line. While I have been blessed with talent on some of my teams, others had offensive lines that looked like the characters from the "Land of Misfit Toys."

By the time the youth kids get to High School, most of the real weak players have already quit playing, realizing football is just not their game. But today on your youth football team, these kids are still playing, still trying to figure out how to play and if this is their game. At the youth level in most leagues, everyone has to play some and most often you are going to have some unathletic players playing offensive line. Thast playing, not being cut or sent down to another team.

Pro, College and High School teams are not required to play all their kids, most youth teams do require you play everyone at least for a handful of plays. These less athletic kids are then playing a postion that greatly impacts every single play (offensive line) and they are going to zone block? Okay, that's great if I'm the defensive coordinator of the other team, but terrible if I'm the running back or the dad of the poor running back on the zone blocking team.

This is how perfectly good youth football players get soured on the game and quit and become part of the 70% of youth players that never play a down of High School football. It's a real shame and is the main reason I wrote the book, do all the clinics and developed the DVDs. Too many good kids get run off of playing football by poor coaches and terrible schemes, no wonder so many High School and Youth Football programs have love/hate relationships.

On the technical side, the zone schemes cornerstone is the "combo" block, where the offensive linemen gets an initial push on a defensive linemen, then comes off the block once good movement has been made, to then block a linebacker. This block mind you is blocked based on the type of defensive front the offensive linemen sees and can recognize, often involving line calls. This would be quite a lot to ask from a 9 year old youth player maybe playing his first game. Most kids that age are still struggling to figure out how to make a sound drive block on a player within 1 foot of them and making sure they remember to block on offense and tackle on defense.

Most High School teams can't even zone block well with Spring Football, year round football workouts, excellent offensive line coaches and 6 days a week practice. And you are going to do it successfully with youth players? With team sizes of 24-25 for many teams, your worst athletes are playing offensive line. So you are going to ask this weaker player to recognize the front correctly, make the right line call, make an effective double team block, get movement on a double team block, spy the linebacker at the same time, then know when to peel off at the exact right time and block the speedy and strong linebacker "in space" on the run on the same play?

So one of your least athletic kids is going to spy and track down and block in open space the other teams fastest and most athletic player (linebacker) after engaging another linemen? Wow that will be quite an accomplishment akin to building an atomic bomb out of a few leftover juice cans and some old mothballs, good luck pulling that all off. If you can teach that at the youth level, you have a Select Football team, should be playing in the National Championship game and as a coach should be coaching O-Line in the NFL. Zone blocking takes GREAT coaching, lots of time, excellent athletic linemen and savy smart experienced football players that can recognize fronts and have impeccable timing, none of which is in abundance at the youth football level.

Simple rule blocking using angles and overwhelming numbers in limited space is what works within the constraints of youth football and is what we teach in the book and DVDs. Zone blocking will fail and frustrate the kids and coaches. It did not surprise me that this zone blocking suggestion came from one of those one-dimensional fails-every-time youth coaches that uses such failed and useless tactics like "attack the center". Probably uses the famous "Hit Somebody" phrase and runs kids to death in football practice, then wonders why his teams can't win any games.

No doubt when this guys team loses, he's the one that blames it all on a lack of talent (every year) or "the kids just didn't want it bad enough". Geez I tire of these kind of guys, they ruin so many kids and teams. Unfortunately we see too many coaches like that in our game and is one of the main reasons over 70% of youth football players never go on to play High School football, it's a shame to see.

When coaching youth football, it's your job to pick out a scheme that will work with the talent levels, athleticism, maturity, practice time and coaching ability you have available. Playing a youth football team trying to zone block would be like shooting fish in a barrel, the poor running backs, the horror, the horror.

Video Is a Very Important Tool in Your Social Media Arsenal

My organization sets up and facilitates social media campaigns for hundreds of corporate clients. I can tell you that it is very important and will provide you with the online recognition and credibility that you deserve.

You want to be able to achieve excellent online coverage by having a presence on many different social media sites as well as many different types of these sites. Releasing targeted and optimized content across your campaign is what will result in the information posted on your social media sites appearing on Google searches.

This can be achieved through articles and video. Video is really important because video enables you to use sites like YouTube, Flickr, Multiply and more...These sites only allow you to post video or images and get excellent Google rankings and so you cannot afford, not to be there.

There are many types of video you can use and release across your social media such as video blog, digital short commercials, video presentations, video demos of products and services and more....
In past articles we have discussed that content is king. Just because you may want to have video content for your social media, does not mean you should just shoot a video blog in your office (as an example) and throw it up online.

Everything you release to the public is a form of communications, is public relations material and should be conducive with your level of professionalism and your brand, even if the topic is personal in nature.

It makes good sense to use the services of a creative production house that specialized in corporate video production for these purposes. We use a video production shop downtown, Ontrack Communications. It is quite affordable and well worth the money to have your video shot and edited by a professional.

Football Balls

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Looking to play some football but wondering which football to buy? Don't over pay for a football ball when you can save money by shopping online. Any store that offers footballs is acting as a middle man between you and your product. With the Internet you don't have to go through middle men anymore because you can find exactly what you want online and for much cheaper than you would pay at any retail store.

The great thing about this sport is that anyone can play it. Before picking a ball you need to know how big your grip is. If you have a smaller hand, you will need to get a football that you will be able to grip so that you can throw it properly.

Are you going to playing at night? If so, you might want a glow in the dark football that is made of really soft foam. If the level of play is going to be high, you will want to get a collegiate or professional size one. But if you are getting one to be used in coed games, you need to get a small one so that the girls will be able to play with it. The are tons of different balls to choose from, but never pay more than $40.00 for a ball unless it is an official NFL. Too many people just buy the most expensive one they see at a store because they assume it will be worth it, do your research first.

How American Football Got Started

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Football points can be scored in many different ways, including catching a pass over the goal line, carrying the ball over the goal line, tackling a football player in his own end zone, or a kicker kicking the football through the goal posts on the opposing side. The football team with the highest score when the game is over is the team that wins the game. American football is also played in other countries outside the United States. Their are National football leagues that are in Sweden, Isreal, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom as well as Mexico, and a few that are in Pacific Island nations. The NFL had a developmental league in Europe from 91-92 and 95-06.

American football history can be found in the early versions of soccer and rugby. Both types of games have origins in different types of football that was played in the UK from the mid 19th century, in which the ball was run over a line or the ball was kicked at the goal. American football as well as soccer is played with 22 players on the field that they play on. Some terms from player positions from soccer are used today in American football such as fullback and halfback.

Rugby and American football do have a few major differences, some of the rule changes were started by Walter Camp who people would call the Father of American Football. Some of the Major changes that Walter Camp made were down and distance and line of scrimmage as well as the rule of down and distance. College coaches like Glen Pop Warner, Amos Alonzo Stagg and Knute Rockne in the late 19th and 20th centuries changed the gameplay by intoducing the forward pass. College football grew in popularity and was the dominant version of football for the first part of the 20th century. College football had a huge national audiences with the football Bowl games. College football had big rivalries as it does today in the United States.

From the year 1892 the origin of professional football can be traced back to, with a $500 contract to play football William "Pudge Heffelfinger played football for the Allegheny Athletic Association playing against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. The american Professional Football started in 1920. The first football game was played in 1920 in Dayton, Ohio on the 3rd of October with the Triangles winning the game by a score of 14-10 against the Columbus Panhandles. Two years later the football league changed the name to National Football League which is known as the NFL and would become the major league of American football. Professional football eventually became a national phenomenon after starting out the sport in the US industrial towns and Midwestern towns. Football after it's NFL Championship Game in 1958 grew in popularity, the game that was known as the "Greatest Game Ever Played. The American Football League also known as the AFL started in 1960 a rival football league to the National Football League, with the pressure it put between the two football leagues before the merger of the two leagues is how the start of the Super Bowl game began. The Super Bowl turned out to be the most watched television event each and every year in the United States.

All American Football Camp - NFL Style

Football fans love to talk about the All American Football Camps, which is a spring and summer camp designed for improving any and all 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders in the nation. It is held in 12 different locations across the USA.

Each and every year, it invites some of the best NFL players and NFL Coaches to share there football coaching skills, techniques and drills. It was designed in the belief that football players are made through perfect practice, not born.

The NFL players and Coaches that have coached at the All American Football Camps are impressive: New England Patriots Quarterback Coach Larry Keenan, New York Giants DB, Perry Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Strength and Speed Coach Mike Morris, Denver Broncos Quarterback Shawn Moore, New England Patriot Wide Receiver Cedric Jones, New York Jets Running Back Blair Thomas, New England Patriots DE/Lineback Chris Slade, Offensive Lineman Kansas City Chiefs Irv Eatman to name just a few. Every camp 10-16 NFL players and coaches are there to share there secrets on how they made it to the NFL.

Being a good football player takes more than just learning how to block and tackle. It requires an almost politically unbiased attitude towards the entire offense or defense.

Learning the best NFL practice techniques and drills is where it starts. With the 16 hours of practice sessions over 2.5 days you can see why there is so much interest.

Some of the the football drills you can learn are Peyton Manning Schuufle drill for QB's.

1. Quick Release Drill for Quarterbacks

2. Big Bag Drill for Offensive Lineman

3. Bump and Run Drills for Defensive Backs

4. Bag Drills For Linebackers

5. Blitz Pick Up Drills For Running Backs

6. Passing Tree Routes for Wide Receivers

7. 2 Gap Drill for Defensive Lineman

So with NFL Style Football Practice Drills and Skills you can be the best possible football player.

5 Drills For Extreme Football Conditioning

Sunday, September 19, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In the dark ages of football, conditioning usually amounted to nothing more than running a few miles and maybe jogging up stadium steps. It was the old standby. And, often the only reason it was done was because that's what your coach did when he was young, and his coach before him...and on and on and on...it was the mediocre conditioning conundrum and it struck football like a plague.

If there's one thing that all football strength and conditioning coaches should agree on it's that running sucks for improving football conditioning.

Jogging is boring, results killing, and, if you are over 200lbs (and you all should be), it can be hell on your knees and ankles. We never run distance in a game, and usually not much more than 30yards and often only 3 - 10yards!

Yet, no matter what, some football players continue to rely on the dreaded and unproductive jogging as the mainstay of their football conditioning programs.

Why?

I'm pretty sure it's because most coaches grew up when the aerobics craze hit. Jogging was the solution from everything from fat loss, heart health, sports conditioning to solving world peace.

But, just because you did something 25-years ago doesn't mean you should still do it! It used to be common practice to not allow your players to drink water during summer practices. It took a few tragic accidents before this stupid practice was put to rest.

How many times must we run around the practice field screaming "4th Quarter" before someone gets that in order to win the big games...the close games against good teams, we have to be in extreme football condition, or, as we like to say...game shape.

But, if you don't run how the hell do you get "in shape?"

If you play a sport, you should do conditioning that is similar to the demands of your sport, which is why Football players have absolutely no business running distance. Ever.

Sprinting, of course, is the usual answer. And, it should be. But, for most of the country, sprinting outside isn't always an option. Here in NJ it seems to either rain, snow or dump buckets of ice on us at the most random times. I can only imagine what the hell goes on in places where it really snows.

Sprinting in the snow may seem cool and hardcore, but, slip on one spot of ice and your season is done.

There are alternatives for those time...

But, a word of warning...it is not for the weak hearted.

Combining three exercises, often called Triple Threats, is not new. Early strongmen would often perform triples; typically a Two-Hands Anyhow, a Press, then a Side Press. Olympic lifters often use them and guys like Alwyn Cosgrove have applied complexes to fat loss training with phenomenal results. But, we aren't talking about just combining exercises in the gym. Using Triple Threats for extreme football conditioning is a great way to get into amazing football shape even when going outside is impossible.

1.Prowler, Farmers Walk, Sprint

This movement is brutal. There's just no point where it lets up. Start off by setting up a Prowler (or sled) about 30-yards from a set of loaded Farmer's Walk bars. Very heavy dumbbells can be used if you don't have access to Farmer's bars.

Get down low and start pushing that Prowler. This should be a sprint, so don't overload the sled too much. As soon as you reach the bars, pick them up and do a Farmer's Walk back to the starting point. Then, drop the bars and sprint back to the prowler.

The last sprint might feel a little funny, especially on the later sets, but tough it out. Yell out "Fourth Quarter!" or whatever cliché gets you to keep going when you just want to vomit.

Start with 3 sets of this combo, rest as needed. When you get good, try to cut the rest periods down to 45-seconds. Gradually. Trust me, go gradually. Five sets of this will be enough for most. You can use it as a stand-alone movement, as part of a conditioning day, or as a finisher after a weight room session.

You can do this in the gym if outside isn't a possibility. The Prowler wouldn't go over well with the school, but, you can get a tarp or even a heavy piece of rug, throw a few plates on top, attach a rope and pull. Instant indoor sled.

2.Dumbbell Cleans, Dumbbell Front Squats, Dumbbell Duckwalk

This is a favorite of mine. It's super easy to set up, easy to do, and is excellent for conditioning and teaching your body to be coordinated when tired. By the way, this is important. I've heard for years that you shouldn't put high skill exercises toward the end of your strength sessions because you're too tired to perform the movement correctly. But, seriously, if you play football (or any sport really) you damn well better be able to perform high skill movements when tired. You better be as fresh in the 4th Quarter as you were in pre-game warm ups!

This trio is great for teaching the body to be on point even as you tire. Grab two dumbbells and knock off 5 rapid fire Cleans.

On the 5th, immediately do 5 explosive Front Squats. Then, on the 5th, keep the 'bells on your shoulders and go right into a Duckwalk. You can go for about 10 yards. But, speed of movement is more important.

The keys here are:

Speed! You have to move fast
25-Seconds rest between sets
Focus... you must learn to perform when tired

Go for 3 - 5 sets to begin with. This works great as a finisher, done at the end of a strength training session.

3.Kettlebell Swing, Kettlebell Bear Crawl, Kettlebell Push ups

This trio can also be done with Dumbbells, but it's no where near as fun. It's best to do this combo outside, preferable in crappy weather (conditioning is as much about mental toughness as it is physical). Yea, yea...I just said don't sprint outside...there's not sprinting here, sucka.

Start off by doing 10 - 15 reps in the KB Swing. As soon as you finish, drop down and, with kettlebells in hand, start doing a Bear Crawl. Crawl about 30 yards. When you reach the finish line, keep your hands on the K-bells and do as many push-ups as possible.

Rest as needed at first, but eventually try to cut the rest down to under 45-seconds between sets.

Once you get used to this combo, try doing it with two different size K-bells. No one ever said the weights always have to be perfectly balanced. This will increase difficulty and keep your stabilizers working the entire time.

This complex can be used as a finisher on an upper body day or as part of a conditioning day. Start off with4 sets and work up to 6. Experiment with different Kettlbell weights, try using dumbbells, or wear a weighted vest throughout to increase the workload.

4.Sandbag Bearhug Carry, Shoulder and Squat, Sandbag Deadlift

Again, best to head outside for this one, but, if you can't then the gym is perfectly fine. I've said it a million times; Sandbags are excellent for improving strength and football conditioning... and it's the #1 tool for bridging the gap between the weight room and the field.

You will have to play around a bit with the weight of the bag. If it's too heavy, you'll never make it. But, if it's too light, the exercise becomes too easy. Starting light and going heavier is the best way to go.

Start off with feet shoulder-width apart. Bend and grab the bag just as you would a barbell Deadlift. You will have to find the best form for you, but, a good way to start for beginners is to Deadlift the bag to the thighs, then do a high-pull/hip pop combo to get it to the chest. If you've ever watched World Strongest Man competitions, you've seen this move used when lifting the large, round stones. It'll take some practice to find your sweet spot, but, once you do, you'll have very little problem.

Once the bag is at chest level, wrap your arms around it and squeeze the hell out of the damn thing. If you relax your grip, the bag will fall, especially as you get tired. Once secured, start walking. When you get to the 50-yard marker drop the bag, repeat the lifting sequence but this time get it to your shoulder. Do 5 reps each side.

When you hit the 10th rep, drop the bag again and do as many Deadlifts as you can. This is quite a bit of work in a short time, so it is ideal when used as a finisher. Start with 3 sets and gradually increase to six.

5.DB Swing, DB Snatch, DB OH Lunge

Again, if you are afraid of accidentally becoming a card carrying member of a Kettlebell Kult, you can use Dumbbells for this complex. This is best done with one 'Bell at a time.

Grab one Kettlebell or Dumbbell, take a shoulder width stance and knock off 20 Swings. Immediately do 20 Snatches then, keep your arm locked out overhead and do 10 Lunges with each leg.

This is ideal for those who are forced to workout inside or in a very small gym because it takes up so little space. You can do the swings and snatches without much fear of some dummy walking directly in the path of the dumbbell... though I once saw Roder drop the bar he was doing Straight Leg Deadlifts onto his foot, so I guess ya never know, eh?

This is also a great way to condition when you can't get to the school's weight room... like on Christmas break. All you need is one dumbbell and some balls.

Depending on your needs, choose 1 - 3 of the combos and work them hard 2 - 3 times a week. If you are early in your off-season, one day a week should hold you. As the season draws near, or if you are looking to lose fat for a specific occasion, start to increase the amount of conditioning you do. The old mainstay of doing 3 weight training workouts and 2 conditioning sessions is a good starting point.

Nani Getting Back - The Quickness Challenge

Saturday, September 18, 2010

In football, you're quick or you're dead. The modern game relies heavily on creating your own space, and pre-season is the place to work on it. Manchester United fitness coach Tony Strudwick runs Nani through a drill that requires quick change of direction and numerous different touches within tight spaces. Now it's your turn. You and your team will be better for it.

Inspire Your Teammates With Football Quotes

Thursday, September 16, 2010

If you are a football player in high school, in college or even if you are a football player that plays for a local team, you can use football quotes to inspire your teammates when inspiration and motivation is needed. There are many times when things might seem hopeless in a football game, or there are many moments when stirring up team spirit is necessary.

You can elevate the mood of team players and change the mindset of everyone on the team when you immediately have the perfect words to say at any given moment. Take a minute and imagine that you have worked hard and long practicing for a game. You end up playing the game, putting every effort forward, and you wind up losing the game anyway. Often times, team members on the football team will be down-hearted after a significant loss.

You can use football quotes to convince yourself and your teammates that you should never give up on your goals that you put up a good fight on the field and to encourage team members to take the loss and use it as motivation for trying harder the next game.

Teach Sportsmanship and Positive Team Attitude

Perhaps you are on a team and a moment arises when the importance of being a good team player and having excellent sportsmanship needs to be expressed. Football quotes can be used to educate team players about the real meaning of the game, the true meaning of sportsmanship, and the need for maintaining a positive team attitude.

You can use quotations said by famous football coaches or popular football players to encourage good sportsmanship and participation on and off the field. There will come a time when a football game is taken far too seriously. You can utilize football quotes at that moment to express that fact that playing the game is about having fun or that getting involved in football is more than just a simple game.

Quotations on football can help you spread the word that sporting events are about having experiences, making friends, building relationships, self discipline, and most of all, about having a whole lot of fun.

You will find that having great thoughts and words at the precise moment you need them is helpful in establishing a solid team, whether on or off the field. Turn to football quotes to promote team building and sportsmanship or to encourage people to work together. Quotations can teach powerful life lessons that can serve people for the remainder of their lives.

Football Statistics Software

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Knowing the football statistics plays an important role in understanding the game. Through reading the statistics you can easily know what happened during the game even if you haven't watched the entire game. What are those stats or numbers are all about? All sports lovers and enthusiasts know what those numbers or percentages mean. Even without watching the actual game they are still updated of the game's play-by-play highlights by interpreting the statistics of the game. Maybe you might think how these geniuses do the interpretation of these complex numbers especially in a football game that involves more than a dozen players in each team. The secret is in the football statistics software that they use. The better their software works the faster they can get the right interpretation of the data.

This type of software is helpful for some people who make for a living thru the results of the game. They are the sportscasters or reporters, sports bettors, players and coaches, and the team managers and sponsors. All these people benefit on different features of a football statistics software. The sport bettors are the ones who greatly depend on the services of the said software. Through the use of the programs contained in the software, the bettor can know where to put his bet. The software that the bettors need must give the right forecast through the analysis of the former game results and standings of the competing teams. By using such software, the bettors don't just rely on the lines from the sportsbooks.

The football statistics software is not only used for sports betting or gambling. The main purpose of creating such software is to have a database of all the statistics of every game, league, or team or even individual player's numbers. The coaches and players use the software to assess their standings and to review their games. The said software is also used to give every minute update of an ongoing game. Sports writers or reporters are the ones who use this software for play-by-play updates of the game and to give the figures that are often overlooked by the viewers.

Football statistics software or any same software used in other sports is one of the latest automated data organizers used in sports. It works mainly to collect data and organize or translate them to give the information needed by the user. This software works as a scorebook and at the same time a record book of the play-by-play events. It counts almost all the statistics that can be counted during the game such as passes, receives, rushes, defense, kicks, scores, and much more. It also gives the individual team standings by computing the wins and losses of the team. Individual player's stats are also available. If you want the complete stats of your favorite sport, you don 't have to do numerous searches on the net anymore. Just buy a statistics software and it will do the rest for you.

Aussie Rules Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Australian rules football has now only been recognised as a truly national competition.
After a decade and a half of fighting off the V.F.L (Victorian Football League)
stigma, the A.F.L would be delighted with the last 6 years results.

Let me explain:

Australian rules football was developed by 2 enterprising young men back in
the Mid 1800`s who needed to find a way of keeping the cricketers fitness levels
up during winter.
They came up with what we know today as "Aussie Rules".

Played only in the State of Victoria initially,in 1897, the Victorian Football League
or V.F.L was born. This competition was the elite of footballers from Melbourne and
surrounding districts.
It was a thriving competition attracting crowds in excess of 60,000 to each of the
6 games played on a Saturday afternoon in suburban Melbourne.

The game spread to the other states of Australia but never had the profile that it
had in Victoria. Elite players from interstate came to Victoria to pit their ability
against the best in the nation.
Interstate carnivals began in the 1950`s but it soon became evident that Victoria
was clearly dominant sometimes winning games by extraordinary amounts.

By the 1970`s this format was changed to allow players to represent the State they
initially came from. This allowed all the elite players from other states that were
playing V.F.L to "Go Home" and represent their own State.
This had a dramatic effect on the Interstate competition and bought renewed interest
from the other States.

The governing body of football decided to relocate one of the V.F.L teams to
Sydney in New South Wales.Hence the South Melbourne Football Club moved
north in 1982.By the late 80`s the V.F.L could see the interest level soaring
from other States and put the wheels in motion to include teams from Interstate,
namely:

West Coast Eagles in Western Australia

Adelaide Crows in South Australia

Brisbane Bears(later Lions) in Queensland.

(Port Adelaide S.A and Fremantle W.A were later inclulsions)

By 2000 the game had gone truly national with a 16 team competition from 5 States.
With West Coast winning 2 premierships (`92 & `94 ) and Adelaide winning 2 (`97,`98)
the revered Premiership Cup had left the borders of Victoria for the first time since
1897.

The V.F.L had changed its name to the A.F.L (Australian Football League) and everyone
grasped the concept except maybe for die hard traditional Victorians.

Of the past 7 Grand Finals played, including 2006 last week, 6 have been won by what
Victorians call "Interstate Clubs". The last 3 being contested by non Victorian clubs.

Our game has changed, of that there is no doubt. And for the better too.
Just don`t tell too many Victorians that.

It's Football, Not Rocket Science!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

You don't have to be a Rocket Scientist to understand (American) football. Granted, it does have a language all its own and there are more rules to learn than in some of the other major spectator sports, such as baseball, basketball and hockey. But the good news is, with a little patience, and a little desire, you can learn football.

Whether you've never watched a game in your life and have been wondering what all the fuss is about (and there is a lot), or watched a game or two and have given up because you just don't get it, the bottom line is, you can do it!

Since trying to explain the game goes way beyond the scope of this article, let me just start with a few very basics, so that the next (or first) time you turn the TV on to watch a game, you will have some understanding of what is being shown on the screen or is being said by the commentators:

The score of the game is shown, so if for example, it shows as Chicago 7, Detroit 0, you will know that Chicago is winning 7 - 0

The time left in the quarter (there are four quarters in a game) is shown winding down, so if it shows as 12:38, you will know that there are twelve minutes and thirty eight seconds left to play in the quarter (each quarter in a professional game is fifteen minutes long as dictated by the game clock). The quarter that the game is in is also shown, i.e., 2nd

The down and number of yards to go for a first down are shown - this requires a little explanation. Each time a team takes possession of the ball (is on Offense), it is given a series of four plays, called downs to advance the ball at least ten yards. The first play in the series is first down, the second is second down, etc. If it is able to advance the ball at least ten yards in the series, it is awarded a new series of downs beginning with first down. If it can't advance the ball at least the ten yards, it may have to give up possession of the ball. The down and number of yards to go for a first down is shown, i.e., 3rd & 7, which means it is third down, and the Offense needs to advance the ball at least seven more yards for a first down.

When the commentators say they're "moving the chains", it means that a team has made a first down. The chains they are referring to are two poles connected by a ten yard chain, held along the sidelines; one chain is spotted where a series starts, and the other, where the Offense must move the ball to make a first down. Each time a team makes a first down, the chains are moved ahead, thus "moving the chains".

The yellow line on the screen that runs across the field is not really on the field, but rather the result of modern technology. It shows the TV viewers where the Offense needs to advance the ball for a first down.

The number of seconds that the Offense must start the next play (as dictated by the play clock) is sometimes shown winding down, i.e. 4 ...... This means that the Offense has four seconds to start the next play; otherwise it incurs a penalty (an infraction of the rules). The Offense has 40 seconds at the end of a play to start the next one.

Any time you see the word "FLAG" or hear the commentators say there is a flag on the play, it means that one of the players (on either team) has committed a penalty.

Organizing Practice Schedule - Coaching Youth Football

Monday, September 13, 2010

Coaching youth football is all about preparation and organization. I think it is very important to have a consistent schedule for the practice. The days and time should remain the same. The parents can then plan around your schedule. Make sure you know the administration's rules as far as how many hours and days per week, you are allowed to practice.

In the current league, I am coaching once school starts we can only practice six hours maximum per week.

I set youth football practices when school starts for three times a week but for only 90 minutes. I believe that two hours is just too long and you lose the attention span of the players. I like to go a serious 90 minutes with no down time.

I also believe it is very important to start and end your practices on time. Do not be the coach that starts practice 15 minutes late and runs 30 minutes over. Neither the parents nor the players appreciate this. I have very productive and consistent practices. Every part of the practice has been prepared in advance. My youth football practices are well thought out. The early part of the season is fundamentals and teaching the schemes while later in the season a good portion of the practice goes into the Game Plan.

It is a good idea to get a list of the religious education schedule since that always seems to affect a good number of players on the same night. If you can determine in advance what night it is and how many players it will effect this may change the day you practice.

American Football - Past And Present

Thursday, September 9, 2010

American football emerged from the European game of Rugby in 1879. Walter Camp, a player and coach of Yale University, is recognized as "The Father Of American Football" as the early rules of the game was instituted by him. However, previous to that, the students of Princeton were already playing a game called "Ballown". It was about fisting the ball and then using their feet to advance the ball past their opponents. There were no hard and fast rules that applied and could be stated as the easiest form of football at it's early times. However, the physical aspect of the game was immense and often it turned violent. At Harvard too, a football-type game was being played on the first Monday of the school year. This game was so much physical that the day it was played was often mentioned as "Bloody Monday". The year 1865 was very important for American Football.

The Civil War had ended and football started gaining popularity in the colleges. It was in this year that some basic rules for the game were established and the game got its patent for the first time. Thus on 6th November, 1869 the first inter-collegiate football was played between Rutgers and Princeton where Rutgers won by a score of six goals to four. In 1873, the Intercollegiate Football Association was formed by the representatives of Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton, and Yale. Till then, the increasingly popular game was being played with many different rules. The association brought into effect the first set of rules of intercollegiate football which allowed fifteen players in each team. However, it was Walter Camp, a coach at Yale, who began the final process of evolution from rugby like game to what we know today as the American Football. The number of players was reduced to eleven and the standard size of the field was set to hundred and ten yards. A little later downs were introduced and tackling below the belt was legalized. However, the violent physical challenge that the game demanded, caused many serious injuries and deaths in the next few years. As a result, though still gaining popularity, football was banned in many colleges.

In 1905, under a directive from President Theodore Roosevelt, Yale, Harvard and Princeton setup a couple of meetings between schools and formed a seven member Rules Committee which was later came to be known as National Collegiate Athletic Association, or the NCAA. American Football has now become a multi-billion dollar industry. With the advent of cable television, the game have crossed the boundaries of America and spread its wings all over the world. Dozens of games both collegiate ad professional are aired almost every Friday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday and Monday nights during the football season. The super Bowl, that decides the national champion, has become the most watched sporting event of all times. Plenty of merchandise and football products have taken the markets by storm. Quite a number of innovative products are often offered as token gifts and memorabilia. Even free American Football ecards can be found over the net .

Some online greeting card sites like 123greetings has an entire category dedicated to the game . Thus from the humble past where football only meant throwing or kicking a ball past the opponents, American Football has emerged as a game which has influenced the culture and economy of the United States of America.

Football - Offensive Strategy

The game of football is like a war between two generals, each one trying to out think the other. Bill Belichick is said to be one of the greatest defensive strategists of modern times while Mike Martz has a reputation for being an offensive wizard. In this article we're going to discuss some basic football strategies and how offensive coordinators and head coaches try to out think the opposing defense.

The main thing that an offensive coordinator or head coach tries to do is play to the team's strength when running an offense. Not every team is blessed with great running backs, a great quarterback and great receivers. The truth is, many of the weaker teams have very few great players, if any at all. However, regardless of how strong or weak your offense is, you're going to have areas that are better than others. You need to concentrate on those areas and make the best of them.

For example, if your quarterback is your strongest part of the offense, even if you don't have the best receivers, use him to his fullest. Maybe he's got an uncanny ability to find open men quickly. In that case you'll want to concentrate on your pass game. But, you have to evaluate your offensive line. If your blockers are poor or just average, your quarterback may not have enough time to pull off long passes, unless he is a quick scrambler. In this case you'll want to execute a short passing game. Maybe some quick outs to your tight ends or even your backs.

However, if you continually concentrate on one part of your offense, eventually the opposition is going to catch on and they'll adjust and be ready for you. This is why you ultimately have to establish a run game if you're strong in passing or a passing game if you're strong on running. You must have a balanced attack or your strengths will be shut down quickly.

Another thing an offensive coordinator must do is mix up his game plan. A few times on short yardage situations he should choose a short pass over trying to run the ball. This will keep the defense off balance and guessing. You don't want to do this too often as again, they will begin to look for it. Same thing with long yardage plays. Occasionally you may want to sneak in a run play or maybe a reverse.

Some of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history have been trick or surprise plays. They don't always work but when they do they are a sight to behold. They are certainly some of the most exciting plays to watch. Of course to be able to pull off these plays you have to have players who are capable of doing it. X's and O's on paper are one thing, but having players who can execute those X's and O's is a completely different subject.

This is why a good offensive coordinator is worth his weight in gold. Just ask Mike Martz if he's had a successful career in football.

Why Sports Jerseys?

Have you ever wondered why so many sport jerseys are being worn? sports jerseys can be seen everywhere you go! Some of the most common appearances are shopping malls, grocery stores, the local post office, and of course at every sporting event you attend or watch on television. Can we assume the participants take pride in their favorite team or just want to look the part?

sports jerseys have long been a part of sporting events. The National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA) and all college teams from the ACC to the PAC 10 are all well represented by their loyal fans. The sports jersey is so much more than showing support of your favorite team. Jerseys are worn for comfort and sometimes even status.
Some rabid sports fans even enjoy wearing their jerseys to bed. Whatever the reason, sports jerseys have become a part of our nation's need for the sporting world.

Sports jerseys come in all colors, shapes and sizes. You can purchase your favorite team's jersey with your favorite player's number and name on it. You are also able to customize your jersey with your own name on it as well. Jerseys can be purchased in the local mega discount stores as well as the high-end retail chains in shopping malls and also at most sports complexes.

One of the easiest ways to browse for a sports jersey is on the internet. You can find all you ever wanted to purchase to show your team pride. You can take all the time you need to look for that perfect jersey for yourself or looking for just the right gift for the sports fan that seems to have it all. The purchases made online are usually secure. Make sure that the small lock icon is located at the bottom of the page when ordering.

Get that jersey on and have a fun time with it!

Canoe Outriggers - Why You Need a Canoe Outrigger For Your Fishing Trips

When it comes to fishing, few kinds match the fun and excitements of fishing in canoe, and for this you will need canoe outriggers. An outrigger, pure and simple, is utilized to make sure the boat is stable out on the water.

It does so by adding weight o the boat so that it takes away the danger of capsizing, and this is particularly useful in rapids or rougher waters. You obviously don't need to worry about it on a calm lake or river, but if you plan on fishing gin more adventurous waters, then a cane outrigger will be an important part of your arsenal.

Therefore, when looking or a canoe, be sure it comes equipped with canoe outriggers. Yes, these will be quite a bit more pricey than buying a canoe that doesn't have outriggers, but again, it will be well worth the cash pent.

If you don't plan on fishing much, you can always just rent these down at the water, and save yourself some money, but if you plan on going quit a bit, then owning your own canoe outrigger is very important.

Also, you can buy canoes and outriggers separately, which might be an effective idea to save some money, because you an often times get these cheaper apart then if you were to buy them together. Overall, however, the savings really won't add up to much, so I'd recommend you find a canoe that comes with outriggers already, and save yourself the hassle of shopping for both separately.

The thing about outriggers, if you do already have a canoe and plan on purchasing them individually, is that you can install them without making any changes at all to your canoe, and it doesn't take rocket science to figure out how to do so. Most come with very clear instructions, and you should have it installed in 15-20 minutes tops.

Where can you find the best canoe outriggers? The internet is where I'd recommend you begin looking, as well as your local classified ads.

There's no sense in buying these at your local boat shop, because you can save a lot more money buy buying from somebody who's looking to get rid of there's, as often times they are willing to accept a fraction of the retail price. If you are an avid canoe fisherman and enjoy fishing n more challenging water, then canoe outriggers will be a vital part of your arsenal.

Arsenal's Best Ever XI

Goal Keeper

Arsenal has been blessed with great goal keepers like David Seaman, Jimmy Rimmer, John Lukic, Bob Wilson and Jens Lehmann. But I have gone for Pat Jennings. He was not only great with 1 handed saves he was pretty adept with making saves with his legs.

Right back

Lee Dixon deserves an honorary mention as does Viv Anderson. But I would opt for Pat Rice.

Left back

Ashley Cole and Nigel Winterburn would get into most people's teams. Sammy nelson was decent but my favourite is Kenny Sansom.

Centre Backs

Martin Keown, Sol Campbell, Steven Bould, Willie Young all served Arsenal with such grace and distinction. It was a huge dilemma to leave 1 player out of the 3 I felt were the best of the lot and unfortunately that player is Frank McLintock as I have gone for Tony Adams and David O'Leary.

Midfielders

I have gone for 3 in the midfield but I will start by heaping praise on the efforts of players like Robert Pires (who just narrowly missed out), Marc Overmars, Paul Merson, David Rocastle, Cesc Fabregas(on his way to being an all time great of he keeps his rate up), Paul Davis, Michael Thomas, Brian Talbot, Graham Rix and George Graham.

But I have gone for the trio of Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit and Liam Brady. Vieira and Petit as a duo are probably the greatest pairing in premiership history as they supplemented each other extremely well. Whilst Brady, was just a genius with his left foot; and in my view, one of the best 5 players to have ever played for Arsenal.

Strikers

They have been a lot of fine strikers in Arsenal history like Tony Woodcock, Cliff Bastin, Ray Kennedy, Frank Stapleton, Alan Sunderland and Alan Smith.

But it will come as no surprise to Arsenal fans that I have selected Dennis Bergkamp(arsenal's best ever player in my opinion), Ian Wright and Thierry Henry (the most exciting player to have graced the premiership).

My favourite Arsenal team is difficult to say as all the ones that have won the Premiership with Wenger in charge have been brilliant to watch and it is difficult to separate them.

Clemson Tigers College Football Tickets

Monday, September 6, 2010

The Clemson Tigers college football team is one of the oldest teams based in Clemson University of Clemson, South Carolina. Its origins can be traced as far back to 1896 when Walter Merritt Riggs, known as the father of Clemson football, set up the team at the same time he introduced football to the college from what is now known as Auburn University, where he studied previously. On its own right, the Tigers have made an indelible mark in the realm of collegiate football. The team has managed to stay consistently at the top of the rankings in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in recent years.

The Tigers also boasts of a proud alumni network of players who are now making their mark professional football. The team also takes pride in its coaching staff that steered the team over the years, most notable of them is the legendary John Heisman, for whom the prestigious Heisman Trophy that is being awarded to exemplary college football players is named after.

The team has been playing at the Frank Howard Field at Memorial Stadium in the Clemson University campus since 1942. Any home game of the Tigers at this stadium, popularly known as Death Valley, is a treat itself of the team's rich traditions; one of which is the "Running Down The Hill," dubbed as "the most exciting 25 seconds in college football."

Important Moments And Accomplishments

Over the years, the Clemson Tigers have made significant milestones in collegiate football history. To date, the team has made a record of 30 bowl appearances, the latest was 2007's Chick-Fil-A Bowl. It has managed to win 15 of these appearances, the last in 2005's Champs Sports Bowl against University of Colorado. In addition, it has claimed 18 conference titles, 13 of which were won under its current membership in the ACC, giving Clemson the most number of conference titles held in the ACC. The last conference title held by Clemson was in 1991.

Quarterbacks in the Current Roster

Currently, the team's quarterbacks are composed of Cullen Harper, Willy Korn, Kyle Parker, Jon Richt, Brandon Speweik, and Michael Wade.

Recent News

The Clemson Tigers football team is undergoing an interesting transition phase when in October 2008, long-time coach Tommy Bowden offered to resign after a disappointing 3-3 win-loss record this season. For the time being, the reins of steering the team has fell under the hands of Dabo Swinney. While Swinney has managed to give the team a mixed record of 1 win and 1 loss since becoming interim coach, optimism for the team still runs high as the team was considered a preseason favorite to win another ACC conference title. The team's current roster has been cited by a number of collegiate sports writers to show significant promise for the team's title quest. In this interesting stage in Tigers football history, this is an opportune time for any fan to witness history unfold and watch the team run down the hill once more as they try to capture the glory once more.

Soccer Nicknames

And quite a few have been rechristened according to their appearance. Let's take a look at some memorable, bizarre and unique nicknames in the world of soccer.

o Brazilian Ronaldo's deadly dribbling and goal striking abilities earned him the title O Fenomeno.
o Gabriel Batistuta won recognition as Batigol after becoming Argentina's most prolific goal scorer.
o Frenchman Fabien Barthez has gone down in history as the Baldheaded God (Le Divin Chauve)!
o Spaniard Ivan de la Pena's nickname, The Little Buddha, has its origin's in his lack of hair!
o Simple contractions transformed giant stars into affectionate, approachable guys - Jurgen Klinsmann was Klinsi, Michel Platini became Platoche and Filippo Inzaghi is Pippo!
o The famous wearer of the number 10 soccer shirt, Argentinian Diego Maradona was initially stuck with the not so flattering moniker, Fluffy, owing to his scruffy hairstyle! Luckily, he was later graced as the Golden Child (El Pibe de Oro).
o One of the most skilled dribbler, finisher and free kick specialist, Brazilian Zico, was so multitalented, he became dubbed the White Pele - a tough title to live up to for any player! Interestingly enough, Pele himself endorsed this comparison, admitting that "throughout the years, the one player that came closest to me was Zico."
o Pet names take on such huge proportions, they sometimes replace and erase a players real name! Even their soccer jerseys carry their nickname! And thankfully so, or we wouldn't have known where our favorite players were on field, without looking at the number on their soccer shirts! Pele, the greatest legend of the game, would've had Edson Arantes do Nascimento on the back of his soccer shirt! And our very own Garrincha would be Manuel Francisco dos Santos!
o For reasons unknown to us, German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is known as Der Ausserirdische or The Extra Terrestrial! Is there something we should know here or has ET already gone home?!
o If German soccer star, Franz Beckenbauer, was The Emperor (Der Kaiser), his team mate, Gerd Müller, went down in history as The Bomber thanks to his goal scoring prowess!
o And now, time to enter the 'soccer zoo' where you'll find Lionel Messi - the Flea, Claudio Lopez - the Louse, Emilio Butragueno - the Vulture, and their illustrious ancestors, Jack Charlton - the Giraffe, Lev Yashin - the Black Spider, Mario Kempes - the Matador, Eusebio - the Panther and Kevin Keegan - the Mouse! It's a full house here, as you can see!
o Some players found themselves firmly ensconced on royal ground and sat on the throne with due honors. Ghanaian international, Prince Opoku Bismark Polley Sampene, known as Prince Polley, was a popular player in the Dutch league back in the 90's.
o And then a name came along in the 80's that took on spiritual proportions of the highest order - Jesus Zamora! Imagine Jesus playing for Spain at the Soccer World Cup! It doesn't get more surreal than that, does it?!

Why Soccer is the Most Popular Sport in the World

Except the USA and a few other countries, Soccer is the most popular sport in the world.
How and why this ball game has become so popular?

The first reason is tradition - in many countries over the years, many rivalry, traditions and community relevance were raised. A lot of soccer clubs has fans with the same religion, political opinions or history. This is why for those people it is much more than a game - it is about tradition, dignity, pride, joy and glory. Those fans share happiness, disappointments, wins, loses, joy and tears, Bad times on one hand and great times from the other.

Not like other ball games as basketball, Baseball, Handball etc... Soccer has a very few highlights peak during the game. Most of the matches have between 2-3 goals, and the game could turn around sometimes in 5 minutes. That's why Soccer seems to be more romantic than other sports.

In the Major countries, especially the less developed, you can see kids from very young age play with the ball trying to score goals. You can see the passion on their eyes, and the longing to the ball. You will not see them on the street playing volleyball or Tennis.
Then they grow up and share the passion with their families and children.

In my onion, there is no beautiful sight in the sports world, like a joyful crowd after a goal in a crowded big stadium. Some researches even say the filling of a fan after his team scored a goal is equal to an orgasm during sex.

Because of the mentioned reasons and many more, Soccer is the most popular, exciting and fascinating Sport in The world.

Gerard Houllier To Be Offered Aston Villa Manager's Job

Sunday, September 5, 2010

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is set to be offered the managerial hot-seat at Aston Villa, according to sources at Sky Sports News.

Reports had suggested that Houllier would be offered a director of football post at Villa Park, but it is now believed Villa want the 63-year-old Frenchman to take over from current caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald, with the former France coach set to make a decision within the next 48 hours.

Houllier is currently a technical director for the French Football Federation and has been one of the favourites to take charge of the Villans since Martin O'Neill resigned as manager five days before the start of the season.

Houllier's last spell in England was in charge of Liverpool, where in 2001 he won a treble consisting of the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup. He was in attendance for Reds defender Jamie Carragher's testimonial on Saturday, and when questioned on rumours linking him with the top job at Villa, he said: "Never and always are two words you can't use in football," according to Press Association Sport.
However, any appointment of Houllier as boss at Villa will reportedly be met by opposition from Brad Friedel and Stephen Warnock, who both endured a difficult time when the Frenchman was in charge at Anfield.

Soccer Player Tips for Better Performance

Soccer player's tips for a better performace. Tips and techniques to consider for the game of soccer.

Here are some ideas to consider when you are playing the game of soccer.

1. Keep the ball moving with one or two touches. This is also known as interpassing within a team setting.

2. Play the ball with pace; make a crisp solid pass, whether it is a 3-meter or 20 meter pass.

Yes and to your team mate.

3. Play the ball and move.

Playing and moving covers the basic idea behind making runs, but the important thing to remember is to make these runs dangerous and make runs that lead to goal scoring opportunities or open up space for a team-mate.

Get the ball and lay it off and then make that run behind the defender again, so your team mate can chip the ball to you over the opposing players.

4. Give it and get it back.

Give and go or wall pass.

The basics for all of soccer is the ability to pass accurately to force opportunities. The key is setting up your defender.

You almost need to draw in the defender towards you, as though he or she is going to be able to intercept the ball, then give it and go - accelerating into the open space to receive the return pass.

5. When dribbling change your pace after making a move to beat an opponent player .

Attack quickly when there's an advantage or an opportunity.

Try to keep the ball moving as quickly as possible. If there's a chance to break, then counter-attack with a few precise passes.

6. Keep the ball close to your feet when controlling the ball. Keep your head up and watch the field as everybody is moving.

7. When dribbling, try and touch the ball with every step you take. To ensure close control of the ball and then enhance your ability to cut the ball away from defenders.

8. Get the cross in. Try and aim for the area between the 6 and 18 yard boxes. This will make the goalkeeper come out and try and collect the ball.

This makes the goal open and vunerable. A cross directly infront of the goalkeeper is easy for the keeper to handle.

9. Take shots on goal and test the goalkeeper as often as possible in the first part of the game.

10. Always want the ball, and ask for it.

If you know that you are making great runs into space let your team know this.

This type of communication is vital for the development of great plays.

11. Always watch the ball, don't get caught because you were watching your opponents feet.

12. Always watch the movement of ALL players on the field.

13. Stick to your teams strategy and tactics for the day.

14. Show respect for yourself by respecting the officials, the coaches, the opposing team and your own team.
