Sports Coaching: 5 Strategies for Dealing with Bad Attitudes

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Sports

Ugh... the player with a bad attitude. It sounds like a serious sports cliché, but it's true - they are like a cancer in the locker room, on the practice filed/ court and in a game. They can make things difficult for all of the athletes on the team with their constant problematic behavior.

But, believe it or not it is possible to put stop to it - or at least curb it by laying down a few ground rules to begin with. And it doesn't hurt to get the player's parents involved with this as well. It takes a lot of energy to deal with players that have poor attitudes, but they can be turned around, and the impact they have on the rest of the team can be significantly lessened.

Here are a few tools for dealing with problem athletes:

oLay the ground rules for players and parents - This is the first thing I would tell any coach - especially if they are running a community team as opposed to a school team. I'd even do it if it were a school team I was coaching. Plan a parent's meeting and expect everyone to be there.

At this meeting you will explain to parents and players the conduct that is expected of players and the way they are to carry themselves on the practice field and when you play games. This is very Coach Carter, but it is preached in many current athletic club guidelines - coaches need to take control of the team immediately.

It is important to lay the foundation for: behavior, expectations, practices, games, and the role of the parents.

oDeal with the player as an equal - If you try to act condescending, or worse yet, call out a player in front of their peers, you might not get the response you want. Talk to the player behind closed doors and get them to take an active role in their team. Don't talk down to them.

oTalk to team leaders - If you approach team leaders, they may be able to persuade or have an effect on the behavior of the player(s) with attitude problems. Peer pressure is often the best pressure to put on people.

oGive the player responsibility - Take advantage of the player's influence and turn it into a positive. Get them involved with a major part of the team to try and generate positive interest in what the team is doing. You might be surprised with what they come up with.

oStay calm - Part of the attitude is to generate a response. Don't let the player see that you are affected by what they are doing.

MLS Photos - Shoot For Quantity and Quality

MLS

According to a July 2008 study by Point2 Technologies, online home shoppers pass by listings with no or few photos and spend their time viewing the listings with the most MLS photos.

This study found that listings with no photos had by far the worst results, getting only a .02 percent of the detailed listing views that the 21 or more photo listings received. The study also indicated that listings with 21 or more pictures received 55 times the number of page views, 27 times the amount of interest and 898 the number of leads as a listing with no pictures.

According to Carey Tufts, Director of Marketing for Point2 Technologies, "Once again the data indicates that online home shoppers want rich content, specifically in the form of more photos, otherwise they tend to move on to the next listing. Especially in today's market, home sellers and their agents do not have to take this risk. The data sends a powerful message. With more than 80 percent of home buyers continuing to do their research online, agents must attach more photos to their listings for them to stand out and attract more potential buyers."

While this study makes a strong case for listing agents to increase the number of photos they use with their listings in order to attract interest, it does not address the importance of the quality of all these photos. Clearly, online interest is not enough; sellers need that interest to result in showings and offers. While more photos may bring an increase in views from an online shopper, quality of the staging of the home and the photos themselves will lead to showings and ultimately, offers.

So definitely put more photos with your listings, but make sure the photos do an excellent job of captivating a potential buyer's further interest and helping them make an emotional connection to the home. This means each photo must show an area that is well-staged highlighting the space's function, flow, and features. And each picture should be taken from the ideal vantage point with the best lighting and then properly finished using a good photo editing program such as www.picnik.com/.

When it comes to MLS photos helping you get to SOLD, both quantity AND quality will be crucial in generating showings and offers. What's a great way to ensure your photos will have the best impact on prospective home buyers? Enlist the services of a Professional Home Stager to help you get your home show-ready before it hits on the market. The investment in home staging will result in a home that shows well both online and in person.  So once the home is effectively staged and the carefully shot photos are posted, be prepared for not only interest in your listing, but action.

Sports Physiotherapy - An Overview

Saturday, May 21, 2011

Sports

Unless you're an athlete or are close to someone who is, you may not be all that familiar with sports physiotherapy. It isn't an occupation with which most people have a great deal of personal experience, after all. This article will provide an overview of his very interesting and wide-reaching career field and will outline some of the many things sports physiotherapists actually do.

The Collins English Dictionary (Second Edition) defines physiotherapy as "the treatment of disease or injury by physical means, such as massage or exercises, rather than by drugs [physio- (prefix) physical + therapy]. Thus, sports physiotherapy refers to the treatment of sports injuries by physical means.

That's a good working definition, but it really only scratches the surface of what sports physiotherapy is really all about. It is true that athletes will consult with physiotherapists about injuries and that they may receive treatment as directed by the physiotherapist as part of their rehabilitation.

Rehabbing sports injuries, though, doesn't represent the whole of the practice. Many in the field focus their interests on the development of equipment to protect injured athletes from aggravating the circumstances and on the creation of equipment designed to actually improve the rehabilitation process. Sports physiotherapists aren't just doling out massages to uncomfortable athletes in the locker room, they're often on the cutting edge of medical improvement.

Working on the development of equipment designed to assist the injured in their recovery isn't the only non-therapeutic role performed by professionals in the field of sports physiotherapy. Some practitioners focus their attention on creating equipment and protective gear designed to ward off injuries in the first place. You can find physiotherapists involved in the design and testing of new helmets, guards and braces designed to protect athletes from injury.

As you can tell, the field really is wider than the strict dictionary definition would suggest. While treatment of injuries remains at the core of sports physiotherapy, the subject area also encompasses the research and development of equipment used in injury rehabilitation and the of the gear intended to reduce injuries in the first place. This completes the physiotherapy circle, making physiotherapists involved in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related problems.

This is an area of study and a profession worthy of serious consideration for those with a strong academic interest in biology and related sciences. Sports physiotherapists are in high demand as more and more people make athletics and exercise a regular part of their lives. With the aging baby boomer population remaining more active than previous groups of senior citizens, the likelihood of continued high demand for subject area experts should remain quite high for some time to come. Sports physiotherapy appears to be a wise vocational choice for those with a strong interest in sports and/or medicine.

Real Estate - An In-Home Business, With Tax Write Off Perks

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

MLS

One of the best parts about being a real estate agent is that you have the power to be your own boss. You may align yourself with a specific over-arching company, but in the end you call the shots. You determine the hours you work - you can do paper work at 5 at night, 5 in the morning or over lunch. You determine how hard you work and, as a result, how much you make. And quite often, you can determine where you work. This means you can work in your home, and when you set up a business in your home, you have the added perks of tax write offs. But those write offs only benefit you if you know what you're doing.

First, know how to set up your business so that it is legitimately tax deductible. Your office space should be just that: office space. You cannot use that area for anything other than business. It shouldn't double as your TV room, your kids' playroom after school, your kitchen or your bedroom. This needs to be your place of business, not leisure. If the majority of your work is off-site, at a home on the market you are showing for instance, but you do your paperwork and handle all other meetings in-house, you can still write off the space. When you do write it off, be sure to do so properly. If your office is half of your apartment, deduct half of your rent. If your office is one-tenth of your house, deduct ten percent of your mortgage.

Within that space there are also numerous deductibles. Your phone bill, for example, can be written off, provided the calls you make on it are for business. It is easiest, then, to have a separate line for your office instead of using the same land line you do for the house (this will also minimize the number of calls and messages not received because of family miscommunication). All of your office furniture and supplies can also be written off. The desk and chair, the lamp, the pens, the files and the filing cabinet are all potential write offs. Hang on to your receipts when you purchase them to make deducting the cost as easy and accurate as possible.

Stepping outside of the office provides additional opportunities for write offs. Every time you get in your car and drive to a home, condo, commercial real estate lot or any other work-related destination, you are covering miles that can be written off. Keep track of the odometer. The miles to and from your home to a homeowners or a seller's will add up quickly: Texas is a big state; Austin is a big city. You'll be surprised how much you can deduct come tax day.

Finally, be honest. It may be tempting to write off everything you can imagine as a business expense, but your mother's visit for lunch isn't a business meeting. You may get away with claiming it was  once or even a handful of times, but eventually, the IRS will catch wind, and every deduction you've made will come into question. Take advantage of the deductions available to you as a real estate agent running your own business in your home. Do not take advantage of the government.

Flourishment of Soccer on Earth

Sunday, May 15, 2011

soccer

soccer, the most widely played team game in the world and also the most popular spectator sport has been played on the planet for over 3000 years. The derivation of soccer is found in every turn of geography and history. The Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Viking, and many more played a ball game long before our era. According to a Chinese text of 50 B.C. kept in The Munich Ethnological Museum, a similar game to soccer was played between teams from China and Japan. The earliest evidence of soccer revealed that a skill building exercise was used by the Chinese Military in between 2nd and 3rd centuries B.C. in which they kicked a ball into a small net.

It is England, where the modern-outgrowth of soccer has started. England is also the founder country of first Football Association. But before that several times in between 1300 to 1450, Soccer faced the threatening of Laws to be banned by the King Edward III and Queen Elizabeth 1 of England for its excessive violence. The first Football Association was created on 26 October 1863 in a meeting represented by eleven London clubs and schools in the Freemason's Tavern. In this meeting a set of fundamental rules was establish to govern the matches played amongst them. In 1869, the association included a rule which forbade the carrying of ball by hand and on this foundation the modern soccer stands. The first football competition in the world - the FA Cup was started in 1871. The first international football match was played between England and Scotland in Glasgow on 30 November 1872. After the English Football Association, The Scottish FA (1873), the FA of Wales (1875) and the Irish FA (1880) are the next oldest football association. Since then the spread of soccer got momentum and so many countries like Netherlands, Denmark, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Uruguay, Hungary and Finland form their football associations. Soccer's governing body, the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) was founded by its seven founder members: France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland in Paris in May 1904. Presently FIFA has 208 members associations and the head quarter of FIFA is in Zurich.

13 July 1930 is the historic day for Soccer as the first World Cup Football was started on this day in Uruguay. 13 countries took place on this World Cup and the host Uruguay clinched the title. The tournament is being organized once in every four years. But due to Second World War the tournament could not take place in 1942 and in 1946.The first women's World Cup match was played in 1971 in Mexico City. The 19th FIFA World Cup Football will be held in South Africa. It is scheduled to take place from 11 June to 11 July 2010. 32 countries will take part in the tournament to be the next World Champion of Football.

The Ugliest Jerseys in NFL/NHL/NBA/MLB Leagues

Saturday, May 14, 2011

NBA

A team's jersey is like a name card, a brand, a public image to the team. Also the jerseys come with the best shining moments of the players. But not every jersey is a boutique. Some of them are really hard to compliment. Most of the ugly jerseys would have a majority part of orange color. No matter in pure orange color or orange mixed with other colors, the whole look is just making it look awkward and definitely not fit for competition. So let's take a look at the ugliest jerseys in NFL/NHL/NBA/MLB Leagues of all time!

1. The Philadelphia Eagles' NFL Jerseys. In order to commemorate the NFL 75 anniversary, Philadelphia Eagles team's players in 2007 all put on their NFL jerseys of 1932. This one was mainly in yellow color. And it really didn't fit the NFL game. The color was a failure.

2. The Hartford Whalers' NHL Jerseys. Hartford is a great NHL hockey city, but the Whalers' jerseys in 1979 were really awful. The whole green color was more than ugly. However, although the team left the league in 1994, still their green NHL jerseys were hard to be forgotten.

3. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' NFL Jerseys. When they first entered the NFL league, they lost the first 26 games in the beginning. And their pure orange NFL jerseys had been criticized a lot. The whole design was awful, the logo was ugly. But they had been using them for 20 years from 1976 to 1995. And in the end they changed the color to be red/white.

4. The Syracuse University's NFL Jerseys. Their head-to-toe whole pure orange NFL jerseys were laughed at and called the great pumpkin. Sometimes I almost thought it was the Netherland team which is famous for its tulips.

5. The Vancouver Canucks' NHL Jerseys. In 1978-1984, the big V letter in orange and yellow color was a really bold attempt. Now the Canucks have improved it a lot.

6. The Denver Nuggets' NBA Jerseys. It's the most famous rainbow jersey design in NBA history. Among the dark green background color, they put a rainbow in the chest. However, it turned out to be as ugly as possible. And it had been used for 10 years from 1982 to 1993.

7. The Houston Astros' MLB Jerseys. This is another rainbow oriented jersey. Among the pure white background color, the red-orange-yellow stripes looked just like rainbow. And the color appeared to be too girlish and not tough enough. I'm afraid this one is my most disappointing MLB jersey.

The above all listed are my ugliest jerseys in the major four leagues of NFL/NHL/NBA/MLB. This is only my opinion. What is yours? Please leave your comments and share your thoughts!

Sports Trends and Statistics - Giving Sports Handicappers an Edge

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Sports

When it comes to sports trends, football attains the top slot. Technically, handicapping is a technique of gambling where the end result of sporting events is predicted and a handicapper is someone who analyses, rates and gambles on a particular event or race. These trends are very helpful while trying to come up with a handicapping strategy. For any sports handicapper and especially a football handicapper, information such as statistics, betting trends and betting systems are very useful in helping him build a successful handicapping scheme or policy and come out with better and improved bets so that the correct winner can be picked up in a league or NFL game.

There are some factors which may have a direct impact on the game such as the form of players, the present and past team line up and other related statistics. Data pertaining to these will go a long way in shaping your opinion regarding a particular team and their potential performance in a match. Although sports trends are beneficial in guiding you through the betting process, they should not be solely relied upon for all future games. Today, whether it is just a college level game or a professional league game, sports handicapping has caught on and has almost become an obsession among enthusiasts and has become a part and parcel of the games.

Sports in general and football in particular has remained a favourite among many. Over the years, as the game has developed and progressed both technically and passionately, football handicapping too has caught on and followed the game. Today, it has become very common to bet on a particular sport both before and after the game. Sports trends not only help a sports buff in his betting agenda but also keeps him posted about the latest happenings in the field of sports. There are websites that cater to sports handicapping in particular and provide all the databases such as trend reports, latest on player injuries and player and game related statistics. Additionally, online libraries and books available on sports also enhance your knowledge base and give you an edge over the other sports handicappers.

Sports trends normally concentrate or pertain to one team in particular; either the home team or the opponent. If you are a huge fan or supporter of a particular football league team or NFL team, then specific trends of the team will give you an insight into the various aspects of the team in question. When it come to handicapping, patrons and old timers will definitely vouch for these sports trends and reports which has given them the winning edge many a times. Since sports handicapping is more of a serious business now than before, one can gather all the latest reports, news and analysis of their favourite games played any time online including the track record of past and present players and figures about top NFL picks of earlier seasons and the current season.

There are some factors that are indispensable to football handicapping in specific. The most important is football statistics. Past performances and statistics when compared with the latest statistics generally reveal how a particular team is placed and helps us gauge what its performance is more or less going to be in the coming games. Some techniques that need consideration in professional football handicapping include the offense and defence aspects of the team, yards in the game etc. The intensity of the team and the attitude and confidence that it displays are also signs that need to be considered while handicapping. Home and away trend reports are also valid at the time of placing your bet. So, the home advantage also needs to be given weight before drawing conclusions.

2010 Florida Football Predictions

Thursday, May 5, 2011

football

The Florida Gators enter the 2010 season with a completely different look to them, as they no longer have Tim Tebow running the show on offense. Tebow without a doubt will go do as one of the best college football players of all time, and now this team will have to try and find a way to win without him. The Gators only loss in 2009 came in the SEC Championship game against Alabama, as they finished the year an impressive 13-1 after beating Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl.

The Gators enter the 2010 season with just 11 starters back, and for many schools that usually means a down year, but we are talking about one of the best football programs in the country. There is no doubt with the talent this team has just waiting to get onto the football field, they are going to be competitive year in and year out. Whether they will be good enough to win the SEC this year is a different story. Here is a look at what the Gators are bringing back on both sides of the ball in 2010, plus my prediction on where they finish the season in the SEC.

Offense: All signs point to junior John Brantley taking over the vacated starting quarterback job, and don't be surprised if this kid has a great season in 2010. Brantley is not going to rush for near as many yards or score 14 rushing touchdowns, but he is very accurate and could put up better passing numbers than Tebow did in his final season.

At the skill positions the Gators welcome back junior running back Jeff Demps, who ran for 745 yards and 7 scores last season. I would not be surprised at all if Demps passed the 1,000 yard mark this season. Looking at wide receiver the Gators lose four of their top five weapons from 2009, as the only starter back is junior Deonte Thompson. They moved fellow junior Chris Rainey into the slot receiver this spring, while adding junior college transfer Carl Moore at wide out.

The offensive line will be the key, as the Gators figure to have one of the best groups up front in the entire nation. They will make life a lot easier for Brantley, who should have plenty of time to get rid of the football, and Demps should have no problem running through the holes this unit creates.

Defense: Florida returns just five starters on this side of the ball, but don't be surprised if this unit is just as good as the group they sent out in 2009. Sophomore Omar Hunter figures to be a beast in the middle of the front four, but for the d-line to really be successful they are going to need solid production out of Justin Trattou and William Green, both of whom figure to step in and start at defensive end.

At linebacker the Gators only return junior AJ Jones, but look out for some of the young talent this team has waiting to get on the field at this position. It looks as though sophomore Jonathan Bostic and red-shirt freshman Jelani Jenkins have the early edge at the two open spots.

The rest of the teams in the SEC figure to have a hard time throwing the ball against Florida in 2010, as the Gators look to have a top class secondary this season. Even though they lose CB Joe Haden and safety Major Wright, they look to have one of the best safety duos in the country with senior Ahmad Black and junior Will Hill. At corner they return one of the best in the SEC in junior Janoris Jenkins, and are expected to start a very talented freshman in Joshua Shaw at the other corner spot.

Prediction - 1st SEC East: I have the Gators winning the East thanks to a schedule that has them playing South Carolina at home and Georgia at Jacksonville, the two top competitors in the East. We could get a preview to the SEC Championship game when Florida takes on Alabama on Oct.2.

Football: One Of America's Favorite Pastimes

Football

Few sports have enthralled the nation as much as football. It is considered one of the most popular pastimes of this age. It is a great time for a guy to hang out with his buddies, drink a few beers, and enjoy watching a nice, manly sport. Many people like to choose a certain team to root for during the whole season. It gives a great sense of camaraderie - after all, there are thousands of people rooting for the same team as you.

Within the larger group of football fans, people who enjoy the sport are divided into subcategories. First, there are people who enjoy the NFL games. These are the most professional leagues, with the players who are selectively picked out of literally thousands. There are also people who prefer to watch college football. Both are exciting to watch. Which one you prefer depends on your background. For example, if you were involved with sports in your college, you will most likely be inclined to want to watch your former team compete.

At the beginning of the NFL football season, all of the teams are placed into a competition bracket. Every week, each team is paired up with another and they face off. The wins and losses are recorded, until the season progresses into the finals. The victorious teams who emerge from the finals compete together in the Super Bowl, the most highly anticipated gaming event of the year.

This is a very basic rundown of the fan following behind the sport. Football is a fun experience, whether you attend the games or just sit at home with your friends. It's an intense game, with lots of action. It has become one of the nation's favorite pastimes, and there is a good reason for it. So if you haven't been interested before, you should sit down and watch a game. You may find you enjoy it quite a bit.

Soccer - Do You Know Soccer's Little Secret?

Monday, May 2, 2011

soccer

soccer, also known as football in some parts of the world is one of the most demanding sports in the world. Don't let the simplicity of the game fool you.

A player is required to jog, sprint, twist, turn, jump and at times run backwards. The leg muscles must be primed for the ninety minutes of action.

Fitness and physical conditioning play a big part in your overall soccer performance. What about nutrition? Do you think nutrition is directly proportional to your performance?

Nutrition is a significant aspect of soccer. Without proper nutrition, the body cannot achieve peak performance and the body will take longer to recover. So what is proper soccer nutrition?

Soccer nutrition must be able to supply the body with enough energy to compete for ninety minutes. Carbohydrates are the best source of energy. All other foods such as fats and proteins require too much ingestion, making them less efficient and not available during peak energy usage.

Carbohydrates should be the key ingredients in any soccer diet. Carbohydrates get converted to glucose, fructose and galactose, which are simple sugars that the body can quickly absorb for energy.

The real benefit for soccer players comes from the conversion of glucose to glycogen. Glycogen is stored in muscles and in the liver and is a quick source of energy when the body requires it. Having adequate stores of glycogen in your muscles is a big advantage. Glycogen is like petrol is to a car. The more petrol you have, the greater distance you can travel.

Most professionals load up on carbohydrates before a match to replenish their glycogen levels. Carbohydrates come in two forms, simple and complex.

Simple carbohydrates are the sugars you find in fruit, lollies and energy drinks. Complex carbohydrates can be found in potatoes, pasta, bread and cereals. These complex carbohydrates are slow to break down and can be stored in muscles and the liver for later use. Complex carbohydrates are the best foods you could eat before a game.

Upon completion of a match, its a good idea to replenish your depleted glycogen levels by eating a well balanced diet of carbohydrates. This will increase your recovery time and prepare your muscles for the next training session.

Any soccer diet would be incomplete without carbohydrates. Make sure to eat enough carbohydrates to maintain your glycogen levels and to give you every chance of performing at your peak.

Football Pass Catching Drills

football

This article will discuss football pass catching drills that are designed to develop finger tip control, soft hands and stronger fingers. Considered repetition stationary drills, each of the 4 can be practiced alone and even at home.

4 Pass Catching Drills:

1. Ball Dropping Drill:
Positioning hands in the front about waist high, the athlete grips the ball finger tips only by the wider part of the football. Dropping the ball the athlete catches the ball with both hands using only the thumb and finger tips only. This drill helps develop stronger fingers and finger tip ball control.

2. The Toss Up Drill:
This drill requires the athlete to toss the ball straight up, about 4 feet above the head. Reaching and looking up for the ball trains the football player to put their arms and head in the proper catching position. Focusing on catching the ball with the fingers and thumb only develops muscle memory and stronger fingers for the athlete.

3. Side to Side Toss Drill:
This pass catching drill is done with the hands in front about waist high. Avoiding using the palm of the hand the athlete roll tosses the ball from one hand to the other catching the football with fingers and thumbs only. This exercise will help with muscle memory and getting finger tip control.

4. Behind the Back Drill:
This training drill usually follows the Side to Side. Like the Side to Side the hands are positioned about waist high but behind the back. This will cause a further arm extension. Roll tossing the ball from hand to hand, you want to catch the ball only with fingers and thumbs. This drill will help you develop softer hands and stronger fingers.

These football pass catching drills are easy to perform and will help you develop what every receiver wants, softer hands, finger tip control and more caught passes.

In the resource box below there is a link to a 4 minute video that demonstrates equipment designed to force catching the football with the fingers and shows all four of the practice drills listed in this article.
